6.1.A. - Page 2 <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation - Honoring the 20th Anniversary of the Redwood City Art <br /> Center, Rosemary Fischer, President of Redwood City Art Center - Alicia <br /> C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre presented the proclamation to Ms. Rosemary Fischer and congratulated <br /> the Redwood City Art Center for its special 20t" anniversary. She noted it is one of the <br /> oldest art studios on the peninsula. Ms. Fischer thanked Council, and invited members <br /> of the Art Center Board up to the podium for recognition. Barbara Britschgi thanked Jim <br /> Smith, past City Manager, City Staff and the Council for prior contributions to this <br /> organization. <br /> B. Recognition - Woodside High School Girls' Varsity Soccer and Varsity <br /> Basketball Teams - Diane Burbank, Principal and Wendy Porter, Athletic <br /> Director, from Woodside High School - Alicia C. Aguirre, Mayor <br /> Mayor Aguirre expressed pride and excitement in students and coaches from the <br /> Woodside High School's Varsity Soccer and Basketball girls' teams. She invited <br /> Ms. Burbank and Ms. Porter to the podium to help recognize other staff, and the <br /> students with certificates of recognition from the City Council. Numerous players were <br /> in attendance and were recognized by the City Council. <br /> Various Council Members congratulated coaches, parents, and siblings for putting up <br /> with long seasons, but most especially the girls, who did well in their sports and <br /> homework during a competitive season with playing sports and their GPAs exceeded <br /> normal bounds. One Council Member said that this was one of these moments that he <br /> appreciated being a Council Member in getting to celebrate the accomplishments of <br /> community members, especially youth. Another Council Member wanted to say <br /> congratulations to the Art Center, including all the artists, for the excitement and <br /> vibrancy they bring to the downtown. She is a supportive of the arts and thinks it is <br /> wonderful that they have been around and wishes that they will continue to be around <br /> for the next 20 years. She also congratulated the girls' teams. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT AND CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> Joseph Rosas said that during his tenure with California Common Cause, he learned <br /> the importance of good government, campaign finance, and reporting. He said that <br /> after running for office, he would like to see Redwood City improve on issues that <br /> include campaign funding and people's motivations to restore confidence in <br /> government. <br /> Shauun Cartwright said that she spoke with a former resident at Pete's Harbor and went <br /> through public documents and news articles to point out that Ted Hannig, who is the <br /> attorney for Paula Uccelli, has made campaign contributions to some of the current <br /> Redwood City Council Members and has supported some of the current Planning <br /> Commissioners. In addition, Paula Ucelli has also made financial contributions to the <br /> current Council Members and Planning Commissioners.
