Review and Discuss Purpose of Task Force: All <br /> Council Mem6er Ira rrtade opening remarks regarding the purpose of the task force in regards to the SBWMA(South <br /> Bayside Waste Management Aufihority). He notet! that the goal was to explore the services provided by SBWMA as well as <br /> its Governance Str�cture with the overa[[desire of achie�ing optimal efficiencies and accountability. The intent was to keep <br /> the rate payer in mind. He explained tf�is is a part af a continuum with multiple factars leading to this need to sit down and <br /> re-examine o�tions. Mayor Benton comment�d that HillsborougF�thought the governance af SBWMA should be expandecE <br /> and possibly have appointec! elected officials on its Board. Mayor Benton would like the agency to ha�e the option to place <br /> an elected officiaf on the Board if it so chooses. Mayor Benton referred to the high rates they had fo impose on the <br /> residents and how it would be easier to justify if an elecked o�cial is par�af the �racess. Mayor Benton would like to know <br /> why it costs just the same to process green as it costs to process black waste. <br /> 4. Identify and get agreement on areas for the Blue Ribbon Task Farce to explor�: <br /> • Current Mission or Purpose of SBWMA <br /> • Current Go�ernance Structure and Possible Aiternati�es <br /> • Services Pror►ided <br /> Other Items <br /> Council Member Warden apined that BeEmont always wanted ta ha�e e[ected aPficials on the Board because some of the <br /> issues need to be addressed by elected officials since they are the accountable. Council Member Warden noted that in 2005 <br /> there was an inferest to pursue this initiati�e but onEy Redwoad City and East Palo Alto were ap�n and willing to this <br />
