Minutes of Weekly Study Meeting
Redwood City Council
May 2, 1966 7:30 P. M.
Meeting called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Herkner.
Councilman Rosselli asked that a review be made on the weed abatement program at next
weeks Study Meeting and expressed his dissatisfaction with program in various areas.
(Memo 5/3/66)
Councilman Henderson asked that a review of the tree spraying program be included. City
Manager stated a report would be made by the Park Dept. (Memo 5/3/66)
Councilman Rosselli questioned Staff recommendation for denying street name change from
Northumberland to Boicelli as felt long established family should be recognized. City
Manager stated recommendation for denial of this request based on fact Northumberland
Avenue westerly of Cypress Street is developed, and if the street name were to be
changed it would mean changing the addresses of residents on the developed portion of
Northumberland Avenue without having given them an opportunity to state their pre-
ference.
Discussion held on possibility of naming another street in the area for Boicelli family
which would not change existing street numbers, Fox Court being one of streets men-
tioned.
It was pointed out the Boicelli name was originally used on a street which had never
been dedicated although it had been shown on earlier maps.
Mr. Boicelli appeared to stress fact that one portion of Northumberland is in the City
Limits and other portion in County unincorporated area and felt change of street name
as requested would clarify situation. Councilman Keckley asked for information
on the civic activities of the Boicelli family in order to help him make a decision.
(Memo 5/3/66)
Council asked that this item be continued for one week in order Staff might make
further study on the suggestions made. (Memo 5/3/66)
Councilman Henderson questioned date of Committee meeting on State College site and was
advised by Councilman Rosselli meeting would be set this week. Councilman Rosselli
also advised Council Francis Britschgi had been appointed to represent the interests
of the bankruptcy creditors on suit on Edgewood Hills site and had offered his assis-
tance to City.
Councilman Bury questioned Agenda item concerning appropriation ordinance to salary accounts
to various departments. Deputy Police Chief explained reasons the transfer is needed
in the Police Department: 1) Three holidays being granted after approval of 1965-66
budget. 2) Recent raises granted in January. 3) Overtime manhours worked by police
forces during periods of potential racial tensions, which averted crises in Redwood
City.
Cc_'~ideration given to nominees suggested for the vacancies on the following Commissions:
Park & Recreation Commission - James Knecht and Ann Gooding for reappointment. Board
of Building Review - Gordon Hanson for reappointment. Mayor Herkner asked that
nominees be submitted for the vacancy still remaining on this Board.
