6.3. D. - Page 2
funds, the City would contribute $1,000,000 in One Bay Area Grant Program funds from
the Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Program. The City would also provide
approximately $5 million in other matching funds from street programs and other capital
project funds.
The Middlefield Road Streetscape Project proposes improvements along this multi-
jurisdictional commute corridor. The project will increase the overall functionality and
safety of the street for people riding buses and bicycles. A major objective of the project
is to improve the walkability of the neighborhood to encourage residents to walk to
Downtown rather than drive. Consistent with the San Mateo County Office of
Education's Safe Routes to Schools project, the improvements to this corridor will also
serve students who live north of Woodside Road and attend Hoover Elementary School.
The proposed improvements include wider sidewalks, sidewalk extensions (bulb-outs),
high visibility crosswalks, new bus stops and shelters, pedestrian-scale street lighting,
street trees, bicycle lanes, bike racks, and overall urban connectivity.
ALTERNATIVES
City Council may choose to not adopt a resolution of support for the TOD Grant
Funding.
FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated cost of the Middlefield Streetscape Project is approximately $6.6 million
of which 11 % is anticipated to be provided by TOD program funding. The remaining
funding will be provided by a Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project grant ($1
million) and various programs under the Gas Tax Construction Fund and the Traffic
Impact Mitigation Fees Fund. No General Fund resources are anticipated to be used to
fund this project.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
Actions associated with applying for and accepting funding do not constitute a project
pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act guidelines. Additional
environmental review will be completed for the projects as required by state and federal
law.
/
l'

-__-
JESSICA MANZI
SENIOR TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR

G .
BILL EKERN
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
