Park and Recreation Commission Page 2 Mi�f�etes of May 23, 2007 ITEM 2 — REQUEST FROM PLANNING DEPARTMENT TO PROCEED WITH MASTER PLAN OF UNION CEMETERY Superintendent Hover said the Historic Union Cemetery Association (HUCA) and the Planning Department felt there is a need for a Master Plan for Union Cemetery. He will invite John Edmonds of HUCA and Charles Jany of Planning to make a presentation regarding this request at the June meeting. ITEM 4 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS -Park Needs Assessment Commissioner Sargent provided the Commissioners with progress update of the committee and MIG. -Park Rules Enforcement Vice Chairperson White spoke about the committee's progress on researching park enforcement alternatives. Director Centeno said that several staff members are investigating the park ranger program at the City of San Mateo. She announced that the new park rules will be distributed in the City water bills, through emails produced by Malcolm Smith, through the Park Pals Program, and emails to our RecNews users. -Hoover Park Renovation Project Commissioner Sargent reported the committee has met several times and are also working with representatives from the Boys and Girls Club on the renovation project. -Solari Windmill Commissioner ]oseph-Hover thanked Superintendent Hover for his hard work and perseverance and felt the project would not have happened without his efforts. Superintendent Hover reported that many City staff and community volunteers have spent many hours on this project and the project has received many donations from local businesses. He spoke about the construction process and stated the Solari Family is very pleased with the project. There will be a community celebration on Monday, May 28 at 10:OOam at Union Cemetery. Superintendent Hover announced that another celebration will be held in about 30 days to thank everyone who helped on the project. ITEM 4 — STAFF UPDATES -Pet Parade Superintendent Beth reported on the progress of the event and invited everyone to attend the June 2 event. Commissioner ]oseph-Hover also spoke about the event and asked if any of the Commissioners would like to be a judge at the event. Commissioners Wright and White volunteered to assist.
