PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, )UNE 27, 2007 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White, Commissioners Sargent, Swope, Truscelli and Wright COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Joseph-Hover GUESTS PRESENT: Steve Zwieg, Vince Truscelli, Gary Karis STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Gary Hover, Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 2 of the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the May meeting were approved as mailed. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ITEM 1 — REQUEST FROM REDWOOD CITY POP WARNER GROUP TO RE-NAME MCGARVEY FIELD FOR FRANK GUIDA Director Centeno reported that staff researched the Park and Recreation minutes from 1939 to present to look for any type of naming guidelines adopted by the Commission, in connection with the request from the Pop Warner Group. The only reference was found in the May 5, 1954 minutes when the Commission passed a motion to send a letter to the City Council recommending that all future parks and playgrounds be named after an appropriate pioneer of Redwood City who had some affiliation with the Park and Recreation development of Redwood City. Director Centeno explained the Commission makes recommendations to the City Council regarding the naming of a City property, but that the City Council makes the final approval. She reviewed the staff memo with suggestions for the Commission to consider regarding the request from Pop Warner. The suggestions were: 1. Name the turf at McGarvey field for Mr. Guida 2. Re-name McGarvey Field in honor of Frank Guida; McGarvey name would be removed. 3. Name 49er Field in honor of Frank Guida 4. Install a monument at McGarvey Field for Frank Guida
