The only reference was found in the May 5, 1954 minutes
when the Commission passed a motion to send a letter to the City Council
recommending that all future parks and playgrounds be named after an
appropriate pioneer of Redwood City who had some affiliation with the Park
and Recreation development of Redwood City.
Director Centeno explained the Commission makes recommendations to the
City Council regarding the naming of a City property, but that the City
Council makes the final approval. She reviewed the staff memo with
suggestions for the Commission to consider regarding the request from Pop
Warner.
The suggestions were:
1. Name the turf at McGarvey field for Mr. Guida
2. Re-name McGarvey Field in honor of Frank Guida; McGarvey name
would be removed.
3. Name 49er Field in honor of Frank Guida
4. Install a monument at McGarvey Field for Frank Guida
