He said he felt that the downtown merchants were very supportive
of their program and noted that Loretta Thomas from Bit of Country sold
$1,000.00 worth of tickets and the owner of Spanky's Cafe stayed open later
than usual and hosted their cast party. He said the only problem he saw was
that their group did not realize that they would need additional rehearsal
time and if they had known that fact ahead of time, they would have
requested a larger grant. He also felt it would be helpful if the Peninsula
Center Stage (PCS) could provide some type of pamphlet listing the charges
for renting their facility. Mr. Weil said he worked well with Kenneth and
Hunter of the PCS and that things went very smoothly. He said he also had
great cooperation and help from Sally Hartman on behalf of the Cultural
Commission.
Mr. Weil mentioned the following problems the Peninsula Musical Theater
experienced at the Fox Theater:
-Fox Theater staff did not always know who was responsible for particular
duties or where things were located.
-Lack of leg curtains on the performance stage.
-The new thrust of the stage appeared to be insecure.
-Unable to keep the theater warm; they had to pay a $165.00 heating surcharge
and patrons still complained about the lack of heat in the theater.
