Mr. Weil said the Peninsula Musical Theater would consider performing at
the Fox Theater again and felt it brought people from a different geographical
area to watch their performance. Total attendance during the three
performances was 656 (Friday and Saturday evening, Sunday matinee). He
also said there was good support from local newspapers especially the
Redwood City Tribune.
He suggested that PCS review the pricing structure of the Fox Theater. He felt
there should be an inclusive charge which would include several smaller
priced items in one total price. Mr. Weil said the stairs inside the Fox Theater
do not make the facility accessible for people in wheelchairs or the elderly. He
said the Peninsula Musical Theater performers really enjoyed performing at
the Fox Theater and felt that it was well received by the audience.
Louise Pasternak of the Peninsula Musical Theater suggested that all groups
given Fox Theater grants could develop a "Fox Festival" program. By joining
forces, the groups could develop one large, attractive poster announcing all
events rather than having each group prepare a cheaper, less attractive poster.
She volunteered to coordinate this activity with the grantees next year. Mrs.
Pasternak also felt the bidding and award process should be moved to October
of each year in order to give the grantees enough time to coordinate, advertise
and prepare for their performances. She also suggested that a pricing list be
developed by PCS before the bid process begins and be included with the
funding packet. Mrs. Pasternak is trying to locate her video tape of "Fiddler
on the Roof" and she asked for the Commissioners assistance in locating the
video.
Kenneth Spicer of PCS said that it was delightful working with the Peninsula
Musical Theater because they were very familiar with producing programs
and he felt things went very smoothly. He said that many of the problems
that the Peninsula Musical Theater had at the Fox Theater are also problems
that PCS is also experiencing. Because PCS is also a non-profit based
organization, they do not have extra funds to repair many of the problems at
the Fox Theater. He said that a pricing sheet has not been developed because
no two rentals are exactly alike and he needs to speak with each potential
renter to determine their needs and associated fees. Commissioner Fischer
asked if a price list could be developed with a list of price ranges for each item
and Mr. Spicer said he would have to check on this matter. Commissioner
Piulle asked Mr. Weil about the attendance totals for each performance.
Commissioner Ball asked about the condition of the curtains and Mr. Spicer
said that the curtains were old when PCS was given the theater and they have
not been able to afford to purchase new ones. She also felt a price list is
necessary.
M/S Piulle/Fischer: To forward the evaluation of the Peninsula Musical
Theater to the Fox Theater Task Force.
Motion passed.
