Mr. Weil announced that a certificate of appreciation to the Civic Cultural
Commission will be delivered to thank them for their support of the
Peninsula Musical Theater program.
ITEM 3 -REPORT ON POSSIBLE USES OF REMAINING 93-94 FUNDS
Chairperson Filippi mentioned that at the March 24 meeting, it was
determined that there were remaining funds from the 93-94 budget totaling
$2,690.00 plus the $980.00 left from the Fox Theater Grant Program and the
Commission is looking at various options to use the money before the end of
the fiscal year.
-Carrington Hall (Councilman Paul Sanfilipo)
Councilman Sanfilipo said he felt that due to the condition of Carrington
Hall, he felt money would be better spent at that location rather than the Fox
Theater because it would be owned by the "public". He felt that the
renovation of Carrington Hall is a worthwhile project and would benefit
many children and students. He mentioned Carrington Hall needs a sound
system just like the Fox Theater, and it also needs painting and other work.
Mayor Buchan said the Commissioners should consider a feasibility study of
Carrington Hall and that they should work with the School District to
determine what the problems are and what is needed. She suggested that the
Commission could begin to generate some movement in this area.
Councilman Sanfilipo suggested that perhaps service clubs could help with
renovating the facility. Commissioner Fischer said that there is a Carrington
Hall Fund in place with the Sequoia Alumni Association. Councilman
Sanfilipo suggested that the Commission could approach the Redevelopment
Agency for funds for this project. He also mentioned that Carrington Hall is
mentioned in the Cultural Element as a number one priority. Commissioner
Ball said she spoke with Will Richardson who was interested in organizing a
group to work on this matter.
The Commissioners requested that a letter be sent to Superintendent
Fruehling and Sequoia High School Principal Earl Walker stating that the
Cultural Commission has remaining funds in their budget and they are
looking at donating funds to assist in the renovation of Carrington Hall, and
that they want to know what their needs are.
M/S Piulle/Ball: To appoint Commissioner Fischer to act as the liaison
with the Sequoia Union High School District on the
Carrington Hall project.
Motion passed.
Don Saye mentioned he was at McKinley School recently and was shocked at
the condition of the auditorium.
