He has tenatively set up the series to be held on Thursday
evenings in the Little Theater in the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. Two
lectures will be held in the Fall and four in the Spring at a tentative cost of
$10.00 per ticket or $50.00 for the entire series. Mr. Marchi has a mailing list of
over 2,600 people which can be used to advertise the program.
ITEM 3-REQUEST FROM BERT LIEBERT-PIED PIPER THEATER
Mr. Liebert thanked the Commission for their generous support last year. He
explained that the Pied Piper Theater is currently using the Burgess Theater
in Menlo Park for their productions but they must be out of that facility by
August 1. They currently have a warehouse on Shasta Street which is used to
house their props and stage materials which is leased on a month to month
basis. He noted that the warehouse is currently for rent and they may have to
vacate at any time. He is looking for a grant to secure a permanent facility in
downtown Redwood City and is requesting $400.00 per month for 12 months
from the Commission. Chairperson Filippi said he is concerned about the
zoning restrictions in the downtown area which state that the first floor of
downtown buildings must be occupied by a retail business. Mr. Liebert said
Charles Jany told him informally that his group would be welcomed into the
downtown area but that a use permit would have to be obtained for the group
to occupy a permanent location.
