For Teens: Summer Reading Club continues through August 31-free prizes <br /> For Children: Summer Reading Club, Summer Listening Club, and Summer <br /> Parent's Club continues through August 31-free prizes <br /> Supervisor Hedges spoke about the new "Graffiti Free Zone" program <br /> developed by the Library staff to prevent graffiti from occurring in their <br /> facilities. Volunteers and staff will monitor the buildings and are looking for <br /> volunteers. Please call 780-7032 if you are interested. She handed out flyers <br /> explaining the program which will go out to parents of every Redwood City <br /> student. All librarians will be talking about the program to the public, <br /> community service groups, and neighborhood associations. Supervisor <br /> Hedges also noted that the BUSINESS ASAP program will be offered only <br /> through August and encouraged anyone interested to use the program. <br /> Commissioner Ball suggested having high school students earn credit for <br /> monitoring the Library for the Graffiti Free Zone program. John Holt <br /> mentioned contacting teacher Bill Hayes who handles the community service <br /> class and Octagon Club at Sequoia High School as a possible source of student <br /> volunteers. <br /> ITEM 2-SPEAKER SERIES WITH JOE MARCHI <br /> Commissioner Ball said she has not spoken with Mr. Marchi but she will <br /> contact before next meeting. This matter will be placed on the September <br /> agenda. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 10-CLIMATE BEST FEST <br /> John Holt of the Optunist Club explained his group is sponsoring the Climate <br /> Best Fest to be held in downtown Redwood City in September and they are <br /> looking for a grant to provide entertainment for the 2 day event. They are in <br /> the process of securing entertainment and have signed contracts with two <br /> music groups so far. He spoke about the music groups and other <br /> entertainment they are considering and the costs of each group. The cost of <br /> entertainment considered for Saturday totals $2,100 and for Sunday is $2,300. <br /> He explained if they sign contracts for all entertainment groups they are <br /> working with, the total cost would be $4,400. Several of the groups have <br /> reduced their performing costs but will require sound systems to be provided <br /> at a cost of $400.00 for both days. The steps of the courthouse will be the main <br /> entertainment stage with another stage closer to Main Street. Mr. Holt asked <br /> the Commission if they would be able to lend their staging to the Optimist <br /> Club for the event. <br />
