Supervisor Hannon mentioned that Gary Joe and the Rowdy Boys have
offered their services for a free concert and wondered if they could be
considered for the Climate Best Fest. Mr. Holt said that two music groups
require sound systems which will cost $400.00. Mr. Holt said the Optimist
Club is using their own funds for this event and that the money earned from
it will help provide funds for children's needs.
TTEM 3-CARRINGTON HALL DISCUSSION
Chairperson Filippi reported the sub-committee consisting of himself and
Commissioners Fischer and Redington met to develop a list of potential
Carrington Hall committee members. Their goal was to have a broad
spectrum of inembers of the community and also include some members
from the Fox Theater Task Force. An advisory committee of four people was
also selected consisting of representatives from the high school, district office,
alumni association and one from the architectural firm of DES.
Superintendent Hartman confirmed that this committee would need to
follow the Brown Act and a recording secretary would be needed to take
minutes, type agendas, minutes and distribute all necessary documentation.
Chairperson Filippi proposed that Don Saye be the recording secretary for the
Carrington Hall Committee but he would not be a voting member of the
committee. Commissioner Piulle asked if the Carrington Hall committee
should stay under the umbrella of the Cultural Commission or whether it
should be a separate entity. The Commissioners also discussed including
students on the committee which would help to provide enthusiasm for the
project. Chairperson Filippi suggested inviting the Sequoia High School
student body president to participate.
Superintendent Hartman stressed that it is very important to have the high
school personnel involved in the project. They must be committed to give
help and cooperation. Chairperson Filippi will speak with Principal Earl
Walker regarding using students to assist with typing of minutes, agendas,
etc.
The public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 12 and will be an
open meeting presided over by the Cultural Commission. There will be
speakers from the Sequoia Alumni Association, DES, Sequoia Union High
School District, and the Cultural Commission. Following the speakers will be
an open forum to hear from the community their feelings on the issue. The
meeting will be advertised in the City-wide newsletter, newspapers including
Sequoia High School newspaper, flyers to other Commissions and
announcements at Back to School night. Chairperson Filippi stated he will be
speaking to the Sequoia Union High School District Board of Trustees at their
August 17 meeting to ask them to consider the project and provide a
proclamation.
