� ry <br /> ITEM 1-LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Supervisor Hedges reported the following events to be held at the Library <br /> during October: <br /> October 14 & 15 - Phonograph Record Sale-Community Room-l0am-4:30pm <br /> October 14 - Trivia Bee-6:30pm-Canada College Cafeteria <br /> October 18 - Storyteller Maria Rael Nowell performing " Tales of Mystery and <br /> Suspense"-for adults (ages 14 and older)-Community Room-7:30pm <br /> October 19 - Senior Health Lecture-"Understanding Arthritis"-Dr. Alan Lash, <br /> 10:30am <br /> October 29 - Childrens' Program-Halloween Costume Parade-2:OOpm <br /> On October 4, 5, and 6 the freshman English Literature classes from Sequoia <br /> High School visited the Library. They were given a tour and a planned (fun) <br /> research exercise. 220 students toured the Library. <br /> Time Out For Parents babysitting service is available for busy parents on <br /> Saturday afternoons from 2-4pm. The service is for ages 1-8 for one half hour <br /> periods. <br /> The Library had 2,207 total sign-ups for the Summer Reading Club, Listening <br /> Club and Parent's Club. In addition, there were 154 sign-ups for the Teen <br /> Summer Reading Program. <br /> Supervisor Hedges mentioned the Library is trying to arrange a presentation <br /> on ballot issues by the League of Women Voters on October 26. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 3-ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CULTURAL ARTS PROGRAM <br /> Superintendent Dr. Ron Crates said that 6 of 12 schools in the Redwood City <br /> Elementary School District have become magnet schools of choice. He <br /> announced the Redwood City Elementary School District in cooperation with <br /> Sequoia High School have made plans to convert McKinley Middle School <br /> into a performing arts school during the '96-'97 school year. The School <br /> District is applying for a federal grant to subsidize the program which would <br /> include grades 6 through 12. They also have plans to renovate the McKinley <br /> School auditorium. Dr. Crates noted he would like to have the endorsement <br /> of the Cultural Commission to help support their grant request. <br />
