� _ <br /> � � � : ..�. - , � � � <br /> � , �2, <br /> � ��,. , � <br /> . 4 r <br /> � � � } �r <br /> <. �- ,�-,, ,. <br /> � <br /> M/S Redington/Moran: To have the Civic Cultural"Commission give their <br /> support and endorsement of the Redwood City <br /> School District converting McKinley to a <br /> performing arts school and that the Commission <br /> supports and encourages the arts in all Redwood <br /> City schools. <br /> Motion passed. . <br /> Commissioner Piulle said that although McKinley will be a performing arts <br /> schools, she would like to ensure that all students be exposed to the <br /> performing arts regardless of which school they attend. Dr. Crates assured <br /> Commissioner Piulle that this would be the case. He also noted that this year <br /> instrumental music was put back into Redwood City schools on a lunited <br /> basis. Dr. Crates mentione�d that students would be able to select if they want <br /> to attend McKinley. The letter of support will be sent to the Board of <br /> Education. <br /> ITEM 2-REVIEW PLAN OF NEW CITY HALL <br /> Planning Director Joel Patterson reviewed several blueprints for the new City <br /> Hall with the Commission. He explained the new building includes Council <br /> chambers and staff space and that 95% of the interior space layouts are <br /> completed but cost estimates have not been received yet. Commissioner <br /> Piulle asked if there would be space for rotating art exhibits in the new City <br /> Hall and Mr. Patterson gave several different locations for art in the building. <br /> Mr. Patterson mentioned the Landscape Architect for the project has ideas for <br /> selling tiles or other items as part of the landscape plan and is looking for <br /> people to become involved in the program. Ed Nordness asked if there <br /> would be room for the Sister City Program to have a display area and Mr. <br /> Patterson gave the same options as for art exhibits. Mr. Patterson explained <br /> there is no money in the budget for art as this project started strictly as an <br /> ADA project to make the building accessible. <br /> Mr. Patterson stated the Council Facilities Committee meets on a Thursday <br /> evening and deaLs with policy issues for the new building and suggested that <br /> the Commission send a representative to attend the meetings. <br /> Commissioner Piulle volunteered to be the representative and <br /> Commissioners Fischer and Moran will be the alternates. <br /> ITEM 4-SISTER CITY VISIT <br /> Ed Nordness, chairperson of Redwood Ciiy International and also a Park and <br /> Recreation Commissioner, explained that a cultural delegation from Zhuhai, <br /> China will visit Redwood City in October 1995. The Redwood City <br /> International organization is looking for 2 or 3 Commissioners to sit on the <br /> Sister City Committee to help plan the visit. The delegation will be here 4 to <br />
