This
matter will be placed on the December or January agenda. He is in the process
of building up the attendance inese programs and has seen an increase in
the number of students participating. He also is
responsible for the drama program and drama production classes. Mr. Broom
mentioned that last year the drama students presented their first dramatic
performance in seven years. It was well received and was attended by
over 1,100 students. This year, two drama classes are offered. Two years ago,
only two students were registered for band and now they have 34 band
members.
Mr. Broom was very supportive of the Carrington Hall project and felt it
would be of great benefit to his students. He said the Sequoia High School
band has performed at elementary and middle schools and is available for
hire and would be interested in working with the Cultural Commission.
He noted the band will be going on tour in Vancouver this year.
M/S Ball/Moran: To send a letter to Superintendent Merle Fruehling
indicating the Commission's endorsement of the current music
and drama program at Sequoia and its continuation, and
thanking Mr. Broom for his informative presentation to the
Commission.
Motion passed.
ITEM 6-SPEAKER SERIES WITH JOE MARCHI
Joe Marchi explained that the Board for the Center for the American Musical
decided that the length of fhe speaker series was too long and decided to run it
in the Spring of 1995.
