fundraiser is needed to offset those costs. Last year's attendance was 300
people over the two performances. Ticket prices have been increased from
$7.00 to $10.00 for a regular ticket. It was estimated that this year's event will
net the Peninsula Musical Theater $6,600. The group also operates the
concession booth at the Fox Theater during their performances which also
nets the group a small profit. Ms. Baldwin told Chairperson Filippi that she
did not think that the increase in ticket prices would turn people away. She
also indicated the group was aware of the $1.00 surcharge per ticket imposed
by the Fox Theater and had incorporated it into their proposed ticket price.
Ms. Baldwin said the group would consider any grant amount given by the
Commission.
Vintage Music Theatre
Walter Kentzler of the Vintage Music Theater reported that last year's two
performance event at the Fox Theater was very successful. The Friday night
performance was 2/3 full and the Sunday performance was sold out and
many people were turned away at the door. This year the Vintage Music
Theatre is requesting a grant of $14,490.00 to have a 3 or 4 performance event
held during two separate weekends. Mr. Kentzler explained the
performances would feature music from World War II and 25 to 30
instrumentals would be presented. He said ticket prices would be increased
from $12.50 to $15.00 per regular ticket and from $10.00 to $11.00 for
seniors/students. Mr. Kentzler said his group was aware of the surcharge
imposed by the Fox Theater. He also mentioned Vintage Music Theatre
would like to number the tickets in order to make seat assignments for each
performance. He indicated the group has no other funding source for the
planned event. They could reduce their event to 3 performances if they were
not granted the full amount. Superintendent Hartman reviewed several
items with Mr. Kentzler regarding their grant proposal and indicated that she
had tried to reach Bill McKenna previously but found out he was out of town.
Because of the revisions to the grant request, the Vintage Music Theatre's
eligible grant request amount is now $6,394.00.
The following agenda items were taken out of order:
ITEM 4- CARRINGTON HALL
Commissioner Redington reported on the committee meeting held on
November 1. Commissioner Moran called the committee members to tell
them of the date of the next meeting. They are planning on having a
brainstorming session with better attendance from the committee and more
material will be sent out to the members. Chairperson Filippi requested that
the chairperson of the committee be put on a future agenda of the Cultural
Commission.
