showing projected income from ticket sales for the event. Raices de Mexico
discussed the idea of doing the production at Carrington Hall rather than the
Fox Theater. They decided to do it at the Fox this year but felt this would be
the last year they would use that facility. Ticket prices will be increased from
$8.00 to $12.50. Mr. Pacheco explained that last year their group lost money on
their production due to the cost of bringing in the extra plywood floor. The
Cultural Commission suggested doing a seasonal program to advertise all the
shows as a "Season at the Fox".
ITEM 2-COMMISSION DISCUSSION AND DECISION ON GRANTS
Chairperson Filippi discussed the fact that the Commission had $15,000.00
to grant and that the total amount of grant requests were $18,016.50. He
discussed various options available to the grantees. The Commissioners
requested that Kenneth Spicer of Peninsula Center Stage try to get
information regarding the overall attendance figures for the Fox Theater for
last year.
Commissioner Piulle suggested having the Commission sponsor two
performances per group and giving each group a reduced grant amount. Ms.
Baldwin from Peninsula Musical Theatre said they would not like to reduce
to two performances but could. Mr. Kentzler of Vintage Music Theatre said
his group also does not want to reduce but could.
M/S Fischer/Piulle: To grant $1,340.00 to the El Camino Youth Symphony.
Motion passed.
M/S Fischer/Moran: To grant the Peninsula Musical Theatre, Vintage
Music Theatre and Raices de Mexico $4,553.00 each.
Commissioner Piulle asked each of the groups if they could still hold their
performances with this reduced grant amount.
Ms. Kentzler of Vintage Music Theatre indicated they could do two
performances. Ms. Baldwin of Peninsula Musical Theatre said they could also
do two performances. Mr. Varela of Raices de Mexico said they could do two
shows, but the matinee would not feature live musicians and would use
taped music instead.
Motion passed.
Chairperson Filippi suggested the Cultural Commission evaluate the $15,000
Fox funding program and consider the entire budget for next year. This
matter will be placed on the January agenda.
