Commission Distefano invited the Commission to attend the Holiday Party <br /> hosted by the Redwood City Almanac on December 22 from 5:30pm-8:OOpm at <br /> their offices at the Port of Redwood City. <br /> Commissioner Redington would like the Art Center grant request placed on <br /> January agenda. <br /> ITEM 1 - LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Library Supervisor Linda Hedges announced the following activities to be <br /> held at the Library during December: <br /> December 6-"Life and Times of Robert Louis Stevenson"-Edmond Reynolds, <br /> Curator, Silverado Museum-7:30pm <br /> December 13-Childrens' Program-Caterpillar Puppets-"The Night Before <br /> Christmas"-7pm <br /> December 19-Santa Claus Visit-6:00-7:30pm-Main Library <br /> December 20-New circulation and catalog system goes on-line <br /> December 21-Santa Claus Visit-6:00-7:30pm-Schaberg Library <br /> Time Out for Parents (TOPS) babysitting service is available for busy parents <br /> on Saturday afternoons from 2-4pm. The service is for ages 1-8 for one-half <br /> hour periods. <br /> Supervisor Hedges explained that the Library's new on-line catalog system <br /> called PLANet will go live on December 21. The new system will: be up-to- <br /> date because new acquisitions will appear in the catalog immediately; tell <br /> which libraries own the materials patrons are seeking; tell if a book is in the <br /> library or checked out; allow them to place a hold on a book; allow them to <br /> check their own library record of items checked out, fines, holds/reserves; <br /> help them along the way with screens that guide them through the search. In <br /> the future, PLANet will allow patrons to access this information from home <br /> through a computer and modem; renew materials over the phone; and access <br /> Internet. A press release will be forthcoming on the new system. <br /> ITEM 2-MUSIC IN THE SCHOOLS GRANT REQUEST <br /> M/S Piulle/Moran: To grant $5,600 to the San Mateo County Arts Council <br /> for their Music in the Schools Program. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Chairperson Filippi requested that we defer Item 3 until the end of the <br /> meeting and the Commissioners agreed. <br />
