ITEM 4 - SISTER CITY INTERNATIONAL
Chairperson Filippi spoke with Ed Nordness who indicated that Redwood
City International President Anita Leplin fell and broke her hip and will be
recovering for the next several months. Redwood City International has
tentatively scheduled a group of artists and performers from Zhuhai, China
to visit Redwood City for one week in the Fall of 1995. Redwood City
International needs a team of individuals to assist in organizing the visit and
is asking for 2 or 3 Commissioners to participate. Chairperson Filippi told the
Commissioners if they were interested to contact Mr. Nordness. The
Commissioners asked that a get well card be sent to Mrs. Leplin.
ITEM 5 - AItTS STAR AWARD
Commissioner Piulle proposed that the Commission nominate the Redwood
City Art Center in the arts organization category because they have helped
enhance the culture of Redwood City.
M/S Redington/Moran: To nominate the Art Center for the Arts Star
Awards.
Motion passed.
Commissioners Redington and Moran withdrew their motion.
M/S Redington/Ball: To nominate the Art Center for the Arts Star
Awards and to notify them of their nomination.
Motion passed with two abstentions by Commissioners Distefano and Moran
due to conflict of interest.
ITEM 6- POLICE DEPARTMENT ART
Commissioner Fischer reported that she and Commissioner Piulle met three
weeks ago with the artist and Captain Granucci. She said the artist brought a
full size model to the site to place it in its location and it looked stunning.
The actual sculpture will be installed during January and Captain Granucci
said there will be a public unveiling and dedication ceremony. A copy of the
brass nameplate design was given to the Commissioners for their review and
comments. Chairperson Filippi said he felt Commissioners Fischer and
Piulle should be included in the dedication ceremony because of their
extensive work on the project.
