Friday performance and 250 for the Saturday performance. She said that due
to demographic changes, the number of participants in the drama program
has decreased this year. She felt some of the reasons for the decrease were due
to the new magnet school program, increase in bus fares from .25 cents to .50
cents, and that the drama program is an after-school activity. Currently
enrollment in the drama program is approximately 50-60 students. Ms. Mori
plans to send a letter to all local service clubs to invite them to purchase
tickets and complimentary tickets will not be given out until just before the
performance dates. Commissioner Ball felt that more publicity was needed to
advertise the performances. Ms. Mori confirmed that the publicity is done by
parents and she would try to improve the publicity process.
M/S Redington/Moran: To grant $1,750.00 to the Kennedy Drama Program.
M/S Redington/Moran: To amend the original motion to grant $2,000.00
to the Kennedy Drama Program.
Motion passed.
The following items were taken out of order:
ITEM 5-MURAL AT MCKINLEY SCHOOL
Chairperson Filippi introduced McKinley teacher Paul Pelligrini who
organized the painting of the mural at McKinley Middle School.
Chairperson Filippi said he viewed the mural and felt it improved the
aesthetics of the main hallway of the school. Mr. Pellegrini explained the
process which was followed to design and paint the mural and gave the
names of teachers involved in the project. He noted that 1/3 of the school's
students participated in the mural project which was completed at a cost of
only $300.00. Funds for the project were raised through student activities.
Mr. Pelligrini said he is planning a mural this year to be done at Kennedy
School.
M/S Redington/Moran: To send a letter to the principal of Mc Kinley School,
Superintendent Ron Crates and the Board of Trustees
congratulating Mr. Pelligrini and McKinley students for
the mural.
Motion passed.
M/S Ball/Piulle: To send a letter to Superintendent Ron Crates supporting
Elena Mori's efforts in promoting drama at Kennedy,
approval of her grant request of$1,500.00 and increasing
the grant amount to $2,000.00 and to suggest that she be
included in the new magnet school process.
Motion passed.
