ITEM 1- LIBRARY PROGRAMS
Supervisor Hedges stated the Bonda Lewis presentation on December 6 was
very successful. The December Library activiHes are focused on childrens'
programs. She said the Sequoia Art Group had an exhibit on display in the
Library for the past 2 months. A copy of the activities to be held at the Library
during December are attached to the minutes.
ITEM 2-CARRINGTON HALL REPORT
Steve Penna gave the Commissioners a copy of the most recent roster of the
Carrington Hall Ad Hoc Restoration Committee. He reported that the
structural study will be completed by DES,Inc. by January 9, 1996. He thanlced
the Redevelopment Agency, Sequoia Alumni Association, Sequoia Union
High School District, Cultural Commission and the City for their support of
the funding of the study. Commissioner Fischer requested that all
Commissioners receive a copy of the Carrington Hall Committee minutes.
Mr. Penna will continue to report on this item at the January meeting.
ITEM 3-BALLET PROGRAM GRANT REQUEST
Rosine Bena reported that she and Dr. Balderas met with the sub-committee
recently and discussed the proposed ballet program. She proposed an 8, 12 or
16 week ballet program for John Gill School. At the end of the program, Ms.
Bena would like to have a demonstration with the participants. She would
like this to be a pilot program that would become an ongoing program. If this
program is successful at John Gill School, she would like to see a ballet
demonstration at the Concert in the Parks to expose the public to this
program.
Under the ballet proposal, John Gill School will fund between $200 to $500 of
the program cost depending on the length of the program selected. Ms. Bena
said she wants to incorporate exercise, introduce music styles to the students,
and to incorporate choreography with their studies. Teachers Pat Nugent and
Lori Myers, and John Gill Principal Dr. Ricardo Balderas all spoke in support
of the program and the benefits it would provide to the children of John Gill
School.
M/S Fischer/Distefano: To fund a 16 week ballet program at a cost of
$3,020.00.
Commissioners Distefano and Fischer requested that videos be taken during
the ballet program to show the participants' progress.
Motion passed unanimously.
