ITEM 1 - LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Library Supervisor Hedges announced that on Wednesday, June 7 at 7:30pm <br /> in the Main Library, Art History Professor Denise Erickson, will introduce <br /> Urban Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte. Supervisor Hedges noted the <br /> Summer Reading Club, the Listening Club, Parents' Club and the Teen <br /> Summer Reading Club will begin in June. Please call 780-7017 for more <br /> information. She announced the Library will be holding a weekly "Solve a <br /> Mystery" program and a childrens' crafts event every Thursday at the Main <br /> Library during the summer. See attached list for June Library activities. <br /> ITEM 2- BRIEF PREVIEW OF COMMISSION MEETING AND POTENTIAL <br /> FUTURE ACTIVITIES <br /> Commissioner Filippi told the audience that the goals of the Cultural <br /> Commission are to bring quality cultural events to Redwood City, to bring <br /> Redwood City into the Top 10 cultural centers in the Bay Area, and to support <br /> and enhance school cultural arts programs. He stated that 62% of the <br /> Commission's annual budget of approximately $16,000 goes to provide for <br /> school cultural programs and the remainder is left to cover the rest of the city, <br /> which is not enough. He said a budget crisis happened this year, and the <br /> Commission was either going to have to cancel the Concerts in the Parks <br /> Series or cancel the Music in the Schools program. The Port of Redwood City <br /> generously gave a grant to the Cultural Commission and funding was <br /> provided for both programs. Commissioner Filippi said the Commission's <br /> budget is now $62,000.00 of which $45,000.00 goes to support live theater in <br /> one venue. The Commission wants to expand its budget for the next fiscal <br /> year and they would like to oversee the entire City-wide cultural budget. <br /> With the increased budget, the Commission would like to infuse more <br /> money into school programs, including a proposed ballet/dance program. He <br /> asked people to express their desires and interests to the Commission <br /> regarding this matter. - <br /> Commissioner Saye announced that he and Commissioner Piulle toured the <br /> construction site of the new Red Morton Center recently to look at ideas for <br /> providing art in the new facility and said he would be speaking about this <br /> matter later in the meeting. <br /> ITEM 3 -AWARDS CEREMONY <br /> Chairperson Redington introduced Mayor Daniela Gasparini who introduced <br /> the City Council members in attendance and also recognized the teachers who <br /> helped support and encourage their students in the arts. Jean Cloud, <br /> Chairperson of the Historic Resources Advisory Committee (HRAC) spoke <br /> about Redwood City's history and the various historic buildings in town. She <br />
