ITEM 1 - LIBRARY PROGRAMS Library Supervisor Hedges announced that on Wednesday, June 7 at 7:30pm in the Main Library, Art History Professor Denise Erickson, will introduce Urban Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte. Supervisor Hedges noted the Summer Reading Club, the Listening Club, Parents' Club and the Teen Summer Reading Club will begin in June. Please call 780-7017 for more information. She announced the Library will be holding a weekly "Solve a Mystery" program and a childrens' crafts event every Thursday at the Main Library during the summer. ITEM 2- BRIEF PREVIEW OF COMMISSION MEETING AND POTENTIAL FUTURE ACTIVITIES Commissioner Filippi told the audience that the goals of the Cultural Commission are to bring quality cultural events to Redwood City, to bring Redwood City into the Top 10 cultural centers in the Bay Area, and to support and enhance school cultural arts programs. He stated that 62% of the Commission's annual budget of approximately $16,000 goes to provide for school cultural programs and the remainder is left to cover the rest of the city, which is not enough. He said a budget crisis happened this year, and the Commission was either going to have to cancel the Concerts in the Parks Series or cancel the Music in the Schools program. The Port of Redwood City generously gave a grant to the Cultural Commission and funding was provided for both programs. Commissioner Filippi said the Commission's budget is now $62,000.00 of which $45,000.00 goes to support live theater in one venue. The Commission wants to expand its budget for the next fiscal year and they would like to oversee the entire City-wide cultural budget. With the increased budget, the Commission would like to infuse more money into school programs, including a proposed ballet/dance program. He asked people to express their desires and interests to the Commission regarding this matter. - Commissioner Saye announced that he and Commissioner Piulle toured the construction site of the new Red Morton Center recently to look at ideas for providing art in the new facility and said he would be speaking about this matter later in the meeting. ITEM 3 -AWARDS CEREMONY Chairperson Redington introduced Mayor Daniela Gasparini who introduced the City Council members in attendance and also recognized the teachers who helped support and encourage their students in the arts. Jean Cloud, Chairperson of the Historic Resources Advisory Committee (HRAC) spoke about Redwood City's history and the various historic buildings in town. She
