schools would have classes that met once a week, 8 times per year. The
Commissioners discussed having the schools pay a portion of the fee or the
students pay $1.00 for each class. It was suggested that a letter be sent to
Superintendent Crates and the principals about the program and then have
the sub-committee meet individually with each school principal to discuss
the proposal.
Ms. Bena invited the Commission to attend a rehearsal of the ballet company
to be held at Peninsula Ballet Theater on July 29 at 5:30pm. Ms. Bena felt it
would take approximately two months to put the program together and
Commissioner Fischer recommended that the sub-committee meet again to
finalize the proposal and report back in July.
M/S Filippi/Piulle: To extend the meeting to 10:00pm.
Motion passed.
ITEM 7-CONCERTS
The Commissioners sent around a sign-up schedule for the 1995 Concert
Series to select the concerts they would be hosting.
Returning to Item 6 - Budget
The Commissioners reviewed the proposed expanded budget, item by item
and made many changes to the proposal. Superintendent Hartman suggested
expanding the program without asking for additional funds could be a more
cost efficient way to offer more lower and mid-sized productions versus only
large productions.
M/S Filippi/Distefano: To extend the meeting to 10:25pm.
Motion passed.
M/S Distefano/Piulle: To accept the proposed expanded budget of $73,400.00
as presented this evening.
Commissioner Fischer wanted to confirm that the public art acquisition for
the Red Morton Center would be a separate item from the $73,400.00 proposed
budget.
Motion passed.
M/S Piulle/Fischer: That $15,000.00 for public art for the Red Morton Center
be included in a separate proposal hom the regular budget
to the City Council.
Commissioner Ball volunteered to serve on the art acquisition sub-
committee with Commissioners Piulle and Saye.
Motion passed.
