proposal. Commissioner Piulle said she did not feel that the Commission
should grant funds unless we have the funds available and that we should
wait to hear from the Port Comnission before making any grant
commitments.
M/S Filippi/Ball: To grant $5,500.00 to the Vintage Music Theater.
Motion passed.
M/S Saye/Filippi: To grant $1,500.00 to Taft School.
Commissioner Filippi felt that although Ms. Korengold does an excellent job
on this program, he sees it as a duplication of a dance program which the
Commission funded at John Gill School. Commissioner Piulle said she
would like the funding support of the Port Commission before committing
funds to Taft School. The Commissioners felt they should hear from the Port
Commission before the next meeting regarding their funding request. The Music for Minors
program provides excellent support to the docents such as: resource centers
where docents can check materials out; a monthly newsletter; and many
functions and training workshops. The training is provided on Tuesday and
Thursday mornings at Foothill College. Music for Minors docents work in
grades K-3 because this is where music is not usually offered. Upper grades
usually offer music as part of their curriculum. Ms. Weiher explained the
program is funded by individual contributions, family concerts with
professional performers, grant funding from Packard Foundation and the
Arts Council of Santa Clara County, and school user fees.
