The Commissioners discussed the two alternatives with several
Commissioners stating they felt that all monies should be unrestricted and
the Cultural Commission should have the ability to decide where the funds
would be allocated subject to the approved granting procedures and funding
guidelines.
M/S Filippi/Fischer: To accept Alternative#2 for $63,846.00 for FY96-97 and
$65,122 for FY97-98 but make it an open process and that there be
no pre-designation or earmarking of funds for any group.
Motion passed unanimously by roll call vote.
M/S Filippi/ : That the Commission accept the sub-committee's
priority levels as presented.
Motion withdrawn.
M/S Filippi/Fischer: To move the Senior Performances/Intergenerational
Program from Level 3 priority to Level 1 priority.
Motion passed.
It was noted that the priorities are indicated as guidelines but are not
permanently set.
M/S Filippi/Ball: To accept Level 1 as changed, Leve12 as written and Leve13
as changed.
Motion passed.
A list of suggested objectives was presented for discussion. The
Commissioners spoke about the need to do better marketing and consider
doing a calendar to publicize the granting process. An objective to develop a
marketing plan to disseminate information about the Cultural Commission
grant program was added. The revised objectives are listed below:
96-97 Obectives:
1. Work to formalize a Public Arts policy which designates a percentage of a
construction budget for Public Art in Public Buildings.
2. Continue to offer at least 5 programs with the schools in Redwood City and
develop and enhance additional cultural opportunities for these students.
3. Evaluate the revised concert series that features the majority of the
concerts at Stafford Park.
4. Develop a marketing plan to disseminate information about the Civic
Cultural Commission grant program.
1997-98 Obectives:
1. Offer two new additional programs to students at the elementary school
level.
