° Civic Cultural Commission Page 7 <br /> Minutes of May 2, 1996 <br /> Commission provides to school children. Commissioner Filippi suggested <br /> making this presentation each year. <br /> ITEM 12-FOCUS 96/COMMISSION WORKPLAN <br /> Chairperson Piulle said she would like staff to take the ideas presented at the <br /> Special Meeting on April 11 and develop a rating sheet for the <br /> Commissioners to prioritize. The Commissioners will receive the rating <br /> form in their June packets and will need to bring the completed form to the <br /> June meeting. This item will be placed on the June agenda. <br /> ITEM 13- EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE <br /> PAST 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Saye attended the performance of the El Camino Youth <br /> Symphony at the Fox Theater. He said the performance was beautiful and <br /> well planned but the public response was not as expected and felt there needs <br /> to be more community support. He suggested having the Commissioners <br /> assist in selling tickets to this type of events. <br /> -Commissioner Filippi announced that the John Gill Intergenerational <br /> Program received the Kent Award by the County Office of Education and were <br /> recognized at an awards dinner recently. Commissioner Filippi encouraged <br /> the Commissioners to visit John Gill School to view the instructional mural <br /> painted on the asphalt. He announced Jazz on the Hill will be presented at <br /> College of San Mateo and will feature Count Basie's orchestra. He also <br /> attended the Sequoia production of "Kiss Me Kate". The Commissioners <br /> discussed the fact that Sequoia Drama Department did not send the <br /> Commission flyers to advertise the event or advise them so they could attend <br /> the performance. Commissioner Filippi also anriounced the "King & I" will <br /> be performed at Kennedy School this Friday and Saturday and encouraged the <br /> Commissioners to attend. Chairperson Piulle felt that groups we grant <br /> money to should be notifying the Commission of their performances and <br /> providing complimentary tickets. <br /> -Commissioner Fischer said this would probably be her last meeting unless <br /> she received another letter from the Mayor asking her to stay on. <br /> -Chairperson Piulle said she will be attending the ArtShare program where <br /> cities who would like to have a cultural commission can discuss the process. <br /> She thanked Commissioner Saye for coming to the Art Gallery reception. <br /> She also spoke about the Music in the Schools program and felt the <br /> Commission may want to re-evalua�e it next year. She mentioned the <br /> Commission would have liked to receive advance information regarding the <br /> Youth Conference which was held at the Red Morton Center recently. <br />
