Civic Cultural Commission Page 6 <br /> Minutes of March 6, 1997 <br /> The Commissioners discussed the fact that they had passed a motion last year <br /> endorsing the concept of the naming of the plaza "Arguello Plaza" but they <br /> did not plan to participate in the organizing of the event. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 6-FOCUS <br /> -Commissioner Piulle felt we should establish Commission representatives <br /> to visit the Redwood City service organizations to advise them of the <br /> Cultural Commission. This item will be placed under the Publicity sub- <br /> committee and each Commission will select clubs to contact. <br /> -Commissioner Filippi suggested each Commissioner be a liaison to 1 or 2 <br /> schools and hand out materials and information on Commission activities. <br /> He also suggested having a joint study session with other commissions to <br /> brainstorm ideas and have a special workshop to let grant applicants know <br /> about the Cultural Commission. He handed out a current Kollage activities <br /> newsletter and spoke about Kollage educating teachers on how to prepare for <br /> school music concerts. <br /> -Commissioner Britschgi said she would like to see more educational <br /> programs such as demonstrations and workshops offered at the Redwood City <br /> Art Center. She mentioned that 33 studios are occupied at the Art Center and <br /> that the front windows are available for students to use and display items. <br /> Please contact Joan Jordan or herself for more information. <br /> ITEM 9-EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE <br /> PAST 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Saye attended the matinee performance of "Man of La <br /> Mancha" at the Fox Theater and said it was a phenomenal performance. The <br /> Commissioners were reminded that they need to call ahead for their <br /> complimentary ticket to PCS performances. <br /> -Commissioner Britschgi attended the Library presentation of the history of <br /> the blues and said it was very entertaining. She also attended the Bernadette <br /> Peters performance at the Flint Center. <br /> -Chairperson Ball attended the "Citizen of the Year" program at the American <br /> Legion; Will Richardson was the recipient of this year's award. <br /> -Commissioner Filippi announced that the Miss Redwood City Pageant no <br /> longer exists and has been replaced with the Miss San Mateo County program <br /> which will be held Mazch 22 at Hillsdale High School.
