Civic Cultura! Commission Page S
Minutes of March 6, 1997
discussed the planning meeting he and Chairperson Ball attended with
Duane Sandul and Marianne of the Port and the letter which he sent
explaining the various band options for the event. The proposed program
will include the Max Bourjon Band on Sunday, September 21 and the U.S.
Navy Band and the Studio S Dancers on Saturday, September 20. If the Navy
Band is selected, they may also be able to play on Saturday morning at the
Climate Best Fest. Cost of the Max Bourjon Band will be $1,600 and the Navy
Band would be approximately $4,000 which could be funded from the
FY96-97 and the FY97-98 budgets. The Navy Band also needs 10 to 11 hotel
rooms for their overnight accommodations and possibly the band could offer
a big band dance at the hotel they are staying at. Commissioner Saye offered
to check with the Hotel Sofitel.
Commissioner Piulle felt we should stick with the logo we currently have for
identification purposes and that we should state the type of music each band
plays on the flyers.
-RESCUE
Commissioner Filippi reported that he, Chairperson Ball and Commissioner
Saye met with Barbara Pierce. He said that RESCUE is looking at providing
music throughout the entire District and are anticipating asking the
Commission for a grant of $10,000 for the program. He reported that Kollage
has also met with RESCUE to coordinate their efforts.
-Arguello Bust Celebration/Relocation
Commissioner Redington announced Mr. Acosta is planning on a May 3-4
dedication celebration. He also announced that he spoke with Charles Jany
regarding the relocation of the bust and they are considering moving the
Arguello bust to the plaza area. Charles Jany is researching this matter and
needs to contact the consultant for the archway project.
Commissioner Saye reported that the Arguello bust has been harmed and he
has been unsuccessful in removing the material/paint from the bust. He
mentioned that Mr. Acosta advised him that five restaurants have promised
to participate in the celebration and that Mr. Acosta would be coming to the
Commission for funding. Superintendent Centeno said she would send a
letter to Mr. Acosta clarifying the situation if the Commissioners requested
her to do so. Commissioner Piulle felt the Commissioners should not do
anything further until we hear from Mr. Acosta and his group.
M/S Piulle/Filippi: That the Commission not do anything further on this
matter until they hear from Mr. Acosta and his group.
