Civic Cultural Commission page 2 <br /> Minutes of Apri13, 1997 <br /> ITEM 2- REDWOOD CITY 2000 COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM <br /> -Thursday Evening Activities in Downtown <br /> Margarita Mendez, Merrily Robinson, Edna Acri and Stephanie Pearson of <br /> Redwood City 2000 announced they are beginning to work on a project to <br /> increase activities in downtown Redwood City. The idea proposed is a weekly <br /> downtown festival to draw people downtown. The Commission was asked to <br /> attend their next meeting on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30pm at Red Morton <br /> Center. The presenters responded to questions regarding: involvement of <br /> the downtown merchants; the type of activities envisioned; and the funding <br /> needed. Redwood City 2000 members indicated that they were not able to <br /> discuss specific dollar figures at this time. Commissioner Saye invited <br /> members to participate in the May 3 event to name Arguello Plaza by <br /> contacting Mr. Angel Acosta. <br /> The following item was taken out of order: <br /> ITEM 4-PUBLIC ART CONTRIBUTION <br /> Magda Gonzalez described the origins of the sculpture which was created by <br /> young at risk students under the direction of artist James Stoval. A picture of <br /> the art work entitled "Nosotros" was reviewed. Mr. Stoval is in the process of <br /> obtaining a grant to have the sculpture bronzed and if he is successful, will <br /> donate the finished work to the City for placement at the Fair Oaks <br /> Community Center. <br /> M/S Redington/Britschgi: To endorse the acceptance of the art work. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 3- GRANT REQUESTS <br /> -City Hall Time Capsule <br /> M/S Filippi/Distefano: To approve up to $150.00 additional funding for the <br /> City Hall Time Capsule. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> -Kiwanis Farmers Market <br /> Dr. Norm Shapiro spoke regarding the plans to revitalize the Farmers Market <br /> including a "Get to Know Your City" table. He requested a $700.00 grant to <br /> support strolling musicians on at least four Saturdays. Other musical events <br /> will be paid for by the Kiwanis organization. He noted that all funds earned <br /> on the Farmers Market go towards Redwood City school children. <br /> M/S Saye/Redington: To approve the grant request of $700.00 to the Kiwanis. <br />
