Civic Cultural Commission page 2 <br /> Minutes of May 1, 1997 <br /> M/S Piulle/Distefano: To use monies from the John Raitt Fund to provide <br /> funding of $250.00 for this request which will be voted on at the June <br /> Commission meeting. <br /> Roll Call Vote: (Yes-2, No-5) <br /> Motion failed. <br /> Commissioner Saye offered to assist with securing Safeway funding for the <br /> event. <br /> ITEM 1 - LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Copies of the Library's May Event Schedule were distributed to the <br /> Commissioners. A copy is attached to the May minutes. <br /> ITEM 2-CONSIDERATION OF GRANT REQUESTS <br /> M/S Piulle/Britschgi: To listen to all requests but make no decisions until <br /> after the official adoption of City budget by Council. <br /> The Commissioners discussed their ability to make decisions about future <br /> year funding. A problem with this would be unfairness to other groups that <br /> may also want to make large grant requests. <br /> Motion was withdrawn by maker with agreement of second. <br /> -Casa de Redwood <br /> Peter Hughes spoke to their application for $500.00 to provide music for 165 <br /> seniors at two winter concerts. He noted that last year's events were enjoyed <br /> by all. <br /> M/S Filippi/Redington: To approve the request for $500.00 for <br /> Casa de Redwood. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> -Kollage Community School for the Arts/Redwood City Education <br /> Foundation <br /> Barbara Pierce noted that the entire RESCUE Foundation Board was present <br /> along with the Superintendent of Redwood City Elementary School District. <br /> She spoke about a new collaboration with Kollage, RESCUE, and the schools. <br /> She also congratulated the Commission on their urging of this type of <br /> cooperation. <br /> RESCUE served 1,500 students District-wide in 1996, and in 1997, will serve <br /> 3,000 students in 100 classrooms and continue with a Middle School <br /> enrichment program. Their ultimate goal is to reach all schools and all <br />
