` Civic Cultural Commission July 10, 1997 <br /> Minutes 3 <br /> Chairperson Ball called on members of the audience who wished to address <br /> the Commission on PCS funding. <br /> Mary Wallace, a Redwood City resident since 1960, urged the Commission to <br /> provide funding as it helped to move away from the "Deadwood City " image <br /> and provided affordable and accessible entertainment for families and seniors. <br /> Vice Mayor Howard reported that she noted an increase in restaurant activity <br /> when performances were taking place at the Fox; her desire to see more activity <br /> at the theater; and her concem over the lack of schedule coordination with <br /> Theaterworks. <br /> Paul Sanfilipo, a former Fox Theater Taskforce Member, complimented Mr. <br /> Bliznick on working with the local restaurants and suggested that it would be a <br /> fine project for the Downtown Merchants Group. <br /> Vice Chairperson Filippi stated that he would vote no on the motion but <br /> would support a grant of $20,000. Chairperson Ball expressed her dismay <br /> at the less than $1.00 per Redwood City resident available to fund cultural <br /> projects. Both Councilwoman LaBerge and Peter Bliznick indicated that would <br /> be happy to do what they could to support additional funding. <br /> The motion carried on the following role call vote: (A-5, N-2) <br /> Ayes: Chairperson Ball, Commissioners Britschgi, Piulle, Redington, and Saye <br /> Noes: Vice Chairperson Filippi and Commissioner Distefano <br /> b. Peninsula Ballet School/Perspectives Dance Theater <br /> Lynn Hilferty spoke on behalf of Rosine Bena for $1,500 in support to provide a <br /> program at Carrington Hall as part of the Tis the Season Program. Proceeds <br /> could be provided to the Carrington Hall restoration fund. <br /> M/S SayelFilippi: To grant $1,500 to Peninsula Ballet School/ <br /> Perspectives Dance Theater. <br /> Commissioners discussed the completeness of the application; the procedures <br /> used by staff to approve bringing and application forward; the materials <br /> normally distributed by staff to applicants; and whether other Tis the Season <br /> funding requests were expected. <br /> Commissioner Piulle stated she would vote against the motion because she did <br /> not feel the application had been completed properly. <br /> The motion carried on the following roll call vote: (A-5, N-2) <br /> Ayes: Chairperson Ball, Vice Chairperson Filippi, Commissioners Distefano, <br /> Redington and Saye <br /> Noes: Commissioners Britschgi and Piulle <br />
