Civic Cuiturai Commission July 10, 1997 <br /> Minutes 4 <br /> The Chairperson called for a brief recess at 8:15 p.m. and called the meeting <br /> back to order at 8:30 p.m. <br /> Commissioner Piulle discussed grant application process. <br /> M/S Piulle/Redington: To modify the computer use only grant <br /> application so that it is clear that it provides heading only and is <br /> not to be submitted to the Commission. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Item 3 Subcommittee Reports <br /> Publicity - Distefano <br /> Commissioner Distefano noted that she continued to advertise for the summer <br /> concerts in the Almanac. <br /> Tis the Season Event - Ball <br /> Chairperson Ball reported on the upcoming meeting of the Tis the Season <br /> committee on 8/27/97 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Activities Building. After <br /> much discussion, it was decided that no more than three Commissioners should <br /> attend the meetings. Those designated to represent the Commission are <br /> Chairperson Ball, Vice Chairperson Filippi and Commissioner Saye. <br /> Public Art - Piulle <br /> Commissioner Piulle reported on her conversation with the artist who created <br /> the Arguello bust, Ray Lorezato. He estimated it would cost $500 to make <br /> repairs. Commissioner Piulle thought that it would be appropriate to consider <br /> the funding request once a location had been determined for the statue. <br /> Ms. Piulle also spoke of her attendance at the City Hall Facilities Committee <br /> where she reiterated the Commission's position that the building should be <br /> completed prior to making decisions on the art. She noted that several Ralph <br /> Ledesma paintings are currently hanging in the temporary City Hall. <br /> Summer Concerts <br /> Vice Chairperson Filippi reported on the excellent attendance at the most recent <br /> summer concert. The concept of having all concerts at one park site and the <br /> use of banners and enlarged flyers in store windows seems to have increased <br /> the crowds. The Commissioners thanked Manager Julie Hannon for all of her <br /> hard work in setting up for the concerts. <br /> Youth and Special Events <br /> Commissioner Britschgi reported that the Redwood City Art Center would be <br /> doing art activities for children at Make a Circus on Tuesday, August 5th at Red <br /> Morton Park. <br />
