` Civic Cultural Commission July 10, 1997 Minutes 5 Banner Policy - Redington Staff reported that they had not received any information from the staff Taskforce working on a banner policy. Commissioners Redington and Saye reiterated that the wire in the 2600 block of Broadway was for Winter Holiday lights only. Commissioner Saye commented on the banner space available on the Broadway and EI Camino clocktower. Budget - Ball Commissioner Piulle urged the Chairperson to have staff write a letter to the Port thanking them for their generous donation and asking to be put on the September Agenda for funding consideration. Chairperson Ball expressed her concern about insufficient funding for the many cultural activities that residents desenred. She noted that just a few years ago it had been difficult to give the money away. Commissioners developed the following list of programs that they would like to fund with an additional budget allocation: 1 . Tis Season $5,000 2. Children's Art Contest 900 3. Summer Concert Series 5,300 4. Kennedy Middle School Drama 2,000 5. Vintage Music Theater 2,000 6. Redwood City Art Center Sister City 2,000 7. Redwood City 2000 Downtown 1 ,000 8. Contingency 2,500 Total. 20,700 M/S Britschgi/Redington: To direct the Chairperson to write a letter to City Council requesting augmentation of Commission funding in the above amount. Motion passed unanimously. Item 4 Focus 96-97 Commissioner Britschgi spoke about her desire for the Cultural Commission to organize a meeting of all of the arts and cultural organizations in the City to leam about what each organization does and look for common visions. M/S Piulle/Filippi: To have Commissioner Britschgi begin to organize the event as part of her role as Chair of the Youth/Special Events Committee. Motion passed unanimously. Item 5 Evaluation of Cultural Events Held Within the Last 30 Days Commissioner Britschgi reported on her attendance at both summer concerts and the Fillmore Jazz Festival.
