` Civic Cultural Commission July 10, 1997 <br /> Minutes 5 <br /> Banner Policy - Redington <br /> Staff reported that they had not received any information from the staff Taskforce <br /> working on a banner policy. Commissioners Redington and Saye reiterated <br /> that the wire in the 2600 block of Broadway was for Winter Holiday lights only. <br /> Commissioner Saye commented on the banner space available on the <br /> Broadway and EI Camino clocktower. <br /> Budget - Ball <br /> Commissioner Piulle urged the Chairperson to have staff write a letter to the <br /> Port thanking them for their generous donation and asking to be put on the <br /> September Agenda for funding consideration. <br /> Chairperson Ball expressed her concern about insufficient funding for the many <br /> cultural activities that residents desenred. She noted that just a few years ago it <br /> had been difficult to give the money away. Commissioners developed the <br /> following list of programs that they would like to fund with an additional budget <br /> allocation: <br /> 1 . Tis Season $5,000 <br /> 2. Children's Art Contest 900 <br /> 3. Summer Concert Series 5,300 <br /> 4. Kennedy Middle School Drama 2,000 <br /> 5. Vintage Music Theater 2,000 <br /> 6. Redwood City Art Center Sister City 2,000 <br /> 7. Redwood City 2000 Downtown 1 ,000 <br /> 8. Contingency 2,500 <br /> Total. 20,700 <br /> M/S Britschgi/Redington: To direct the Chairperson to write a letter <br /> to City Council requesting augmentation of Commission funding in <br /> the above amount. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Item 4 Focus 96-97 <br /> Commissioner Britschgi spoke about her desire for the Cultural Commission to <br /> organize a meeting of all of the arts and cultural organizations in the City to <br /> leam about what each organization does and look for common visions. <br /> M/S Piulle/Filippi: To have Commissioner Britschgi begin to <br /> organize the event as part of her role as Chair of the Youth/Special <br /> Events Committee. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Item 5 Evaluation of Cultural Events Held Within the Last 30 Days <br /> Commissioner Britschgi reported on her attendance at both summer concerts <br /> and the Fillmore Jazz Festival. <br />
