Civic Cultural Commission August 7, 1997 <br /> Minutes <br /> 4 <br /> Summer Concerts <br /> Commissioner Piulle asked staff to pay attention to the banner at Stafford Park <br /> as it appears to need repairs. 620 people were in attendance for the Different <br /> Drums Concert on August 6th. <br /> Youth and Special Events <br /> Commissioner Britschgi reported on the Redwood City Art Center activities for <br /> children at Make a Circus, Tuesday, August 5th at Red Morton Park. She noted <br /> that next year the art booths would be more closely tied into the camival area <br /> and that different kinds of art projects would be reviewed. <br /> Banner Policy - Redington <br /> No new information has been received. <br /> Budget - Ball <br /> Superintendent Centeno reviewed the actions taken by the Chairperson since <br /> the last meeting regarding additional funding for the Commission including: a <br /> letter sent to the Port Commission requesting support of the Summer Concert <br /> Series; discussions with individual Council members regarding the need for the <br /> request; and materials distributed to Mayor Hartnett regarding budget amounts <br /> and grants figures for 96-97 and 97-98. <br /> Staff then asked for input on the draft Council report from the Commission. <br /> Commissioners requested that the specific prioritized items included in the July <br /> minutes indicating uses of the funds be included in the report. Commissioners <br /> would like to address the Council early in September and asked staff to pursue <br /> a report on September 8th. Commissioners noted budget information should <br /> be changed to reflect 97-98 total. <br /> Item 4 Focus 96-97 <br /> Commissioners and staff discussed current staffing levels for the Commission. <br /> Commissioners agreed to move their September meeting to the 2nd Thursday <br /> of the month to avoid conflicting with a Redwood City Art Center event. <br /> Item 5 Evaluation of Cultural Events Held Within the Last 30 Days <br /> Commissioner Saye reported on his attendance at the a well attended <br /> Redwood City Art Center Exhibition noting the opportunity to advertise at City <br /> Pub and mentioned the Raices de Mexico performance at Carrington Hall. <br /> Commissioner Piulle reported on her visit to the Farmers Market and the lack of <br /> impact she thought performers had on its success. She noted that Redwood <br /> City Intemational was selling tickets at the market. Ms. Piulle also noted she <br /> had enjoyed the Peninsula Center Stage production of Once Upon a Mattress. <br />
