Minutes of the Civic Culfura!Commission Page 2 <br /> Thursday,November 5, 1998 <br /> reaction to the plan should be included in the packet. Superintendent Centeno <br /> indicated that if Ms. Waters wanted materials sent with the packet that they <br /> needed to arrive no later than the Thursday preceding the meeting. <br /> Dave Stuart spoke regarding: his interest in seeing support for the restoration of <br /> Carrington Hall, which is $2.5 million short of goal; whether City General fund <br /> dollars can be used to support the restoration; the proposal for a new theater <br /> complex in downtown and the Fox Theater. Commissioner Schenone <br /> commented on the availability of other theaters including Canada College and <br /> the Veterans Memorial Building. Loretta Knight also commented that the <br /> Sequoia Alumni Association was also involved in the Carrington Restoration <br /> project. <br /> Item 1- Library Programs <br /> No materials were received prior to the meeting. The Library representative was <br /> unable to attend. <br /> The Commission recessed from 7:30 p.m. to 7:35 p.m. to accommodate <br /> Commissioners pictures being taken by Lewis Miller on behalf of the Council. <br /> The following item was taken out of order at this time: <br /> Item 5 - Sub Committee Reports, Summer Concerts <br /> Vice Chairperson Redington reported on his visit to the Port Commission to <br /> request funds for the summer concerts. The Port Commissioners passed a <br /> resolution authorizing $5,300 for the series on the condition that a concert be <br /> held at the Port at a mutually agreed upon time. <br /> M/S B.Pierce/R.Schenone moved to thank the Port Commission for their <br /> generous contribution of$5,300 and to provide at least one concert at the <br /> Port of Redwood City. Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Item 2 -Grant Requests <br /> The Commission agreed to hear all grant requests prior to making any decisions. <br /> -Peninsula Celebration Association — Robert Slusser <br /> Mr. Slusser commented on the request for$4,000.00 funding for Peninsula <br /> Celebration Association (PCA)to support the Holiday Parade and Showcase for <br /> the Commission's own Tis the Season Program. Commissioner Saye noted he <br /> would be abstaining as he is a member of the PCA Board of Directors. Several <br /> Commissioners commented on the improved attendance; the number of <br /> community groups involved; the impact on Downtown Businesses and the fact <br /> that the event was put together by former Commission Chairperson, Virginia Ball. <br />
