Civic Cultural Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of April 2, 1998 <br /> Commission to talk about their work plans, Council expectations and any <br /> suggested changes. <br /> M/S Saye/Redington: To hold the regular May 7th Commission meeting and <br /> use the time to develop suggestions for the May 1 1 tn <br /> Study Session with Council. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> M/S Britschgi/Redington: That the Civic Cultural Commission urges Council <br /> to make appointments to the Commission by end <br /> of May so that a seven member body will review <br /> funding applications. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Commissioner Britschgi encouraged members whose terms were ending in <br /> 1998 to consider re-applying for the Commission. <br /> ITEM 3 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Banner Policy <br /> M/S Saye/Distefano: That the Commission does not support any use of <br /> banners downtown other than on the wire on the <br /> 2400 block of Broadway. <br /> Motion passed. (Yes-4, No-1 Britschgi) <br /> Commissioner Britschgi did not support the motion because this would <br /> exclude use of the clocktower. Commissioner Distefano indicated she did <br /> not support the use of the clocktown for banners and Commissioner Saye <br /> indicated that the type of banners required would be too expensive for most <br /> groups. <br /> -Budget <br /> Superintendent Centeno reported that the new grant process letter and <br /> application were sent out on March 16. She asked Commissioners to review <br /> the list and notify staff if there are additional groups or organizations which <br /> should receive this packet. She also noted that Council budget study <br /> sessions have been set for June 29, July 6, and July 9t'' if needed. <br /> All Commissioners noted that they had individually been asked to sponsor a <br /> Redwood City Educational Foundation fundraiser on May 19 from 6:00- <br /> 8:OOpm; tickets are 530.00 each. <br /> -Public Art <br /> Commissioner Britschgi will follow-up with Joel Patterson on art work at City <br /> Hall. She noted that she had been approached to see if the Commission <br /> would be interested in co-sponsorship of an art piece with the Historical <br /> Museum in the coming year. Commissioner Britschgi reported that a <br /> Groundbreaking ceremony for the new Historical Museum will be held on <br /> April 28 at 2:OOpm at the new site. <br /> Commissioner Saye inquired about the 1939 wing of the building being used <br /> as an art wing. None of the Commissioners were aware of any new <br /> information on the project. <br />
