Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of April 2, 1998 <br /> -Publicity <br /> Commissioner Distefano announced that the "Day in the Park" program to be <br /> held on April 23 was publicized in the Redwood City Almanac. <br /> -Summer Concerts <br /> Chairperson Ball stated she spoke with Manager Julie Hannon and was <br /> advised that the Peninsula Youth Symphony has been contacted to perform <br /> at one of our concerts. This group is now based out of McKinley School. <br /> The Internationals Group have been approached but have not yet signed on <br /> for our concert series. <br /> -Tis the Season <br /> The next meeting of this sub-committee is scheduled for Wednesday, April <br /> 22 at the Peninsula Celebration Association offices at 7:30pm. <br /> -Youth and Special Events <br /> Commissioner Britschgi asked for Commissioner Distefano's help in working <br /> developing an art component for the Make-A-Circus event since Ms. Driscoll <br /> of the Art Center will be moving. <br /> The meeting was recessed at 7:55pm. The meeting was reconvened at <br /> 8:07pm. <br /> ITEM 4 — FOCUS 1998-2000 <br /> Commissioner Britschgi suggested the Commission think about cultural <br /> events to plan for the millennium; this could include events reflecting <br /> Redwood City's past and future. Some of the ideas presented by the <br /> Commission included: showing of a film of Redwood City in the 1940's and <br /> possible joint sponsorship of an evening of special events. <br /> With respect to the upcoming meeting with Council, the Commission <br /> suggested: considering quarterly or bi-annual meetings with other <br /> commissions to look for overlaps in work plans, etc.; setting 2 year terms for <br /> commissions/boards; sending representatives from the Commission to <br /> meetings of the other groups; hold joint meetings of all Boards and <br /> Commissions and establish work plans in break out sessions; have Council <br /> delineate what are the expectations to set work plans; not formal or tight; 2 <br /> hour maximum; involve Commissioners in budget workshop; helpful to <br /> Commission to make presentation on what we would like to do. <br /> ITEM 5 — EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE PAST <br /> 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Distefano reported that donations of musical instruments <br /> were coming in to the schools. She knew of one person who donated four <br /> instruments. <br /> -Commissioner Redington apologized for missing last meeting. <br /> -Commissioner Saye spoke on his attendance at Big River at the Fox Theater <br /> and II Travatore at Lucie Stern Theater. <br /> -Commissioner Britschgi attended the Three Penny Opera at Mt. Carmel <br /> Church presented by the Kindergarten class; she also attended the opening <br /> of the Blacksmith Shop at the Historic Woodside Tripp Store. <br />
