Taft School presented "West Side <br /> Story" which represented a unification among various races. Kollage would <br /> like to increase the program by two additional schools (Roosevelt and Selby <br /> Lane) for a total grant request of 55,360.00. <br /> -Kollage School for the Arts, NOTES (NO Tin EarS) <br /> Henry Use stated Kollage has hired a staff person to work directly with the <br /> schools and scheduling performances. Mr. Use schedules groups with the <br /> musicians union for one performance per school. He explained that teacher <br /> training is now covered by the Redwood City Education Foundation which <br /> feeds into other programs. Total Kollage request S 14,660.00. <br /> -Peninsula Center Stage <br /> Peter Bliznick spoke regarding the history of Peninsula Center Stage .(PCS), <br /> Fox Theater Productions since 1993; S 1,500,000 in arts program <br /> expenditures, over 100,000 visitors, 800 volunteers and 18 productions <br /> consisting of 200 performances. He indicated that the theater was <br /> embarking on an experiment with Redwood City Court School, had <br /> participated in their Career Day, playwright mentoring program, and had <br /> made donations of S 1,800 in tickets, gifts to non-profits to use for auctions, <br /> etc. <br /> Mr. Bliznick stated PCS is ready to embark upon corporate sponsorship <br /> program to help underwrite their performances; PCS plans to acknowledge <br /> the Cultural Commission as a sponsor of their activities. <br /> Mr. Bliznick stated the total PCS budget is $339,000 and the Commission's <br /> grant would help pay for the royalties costs. Last year royalties costs were <br /> 537,000; the requested 533,500 is 8.9% of total budget. <br /> Commissioner Distefano expressed her concern about the size of the <br /> acknowledgment the Cultural Commission receives from PCS. Mr. Bliznick <br /> noted that the size of the acknowledgment was the same as for all other <br /> donors. He noted Redwood City giving by individuals is half of what Palo <br /> Alto gives; although Redwood City giving increased this year by 53,500. <br /> Chairperson Ball inquired about developing a program to work with youth in <br /> the community. She suggested having historic tours and field trip visits as in <br /> previous years. <br /> -Redwood City Education Foundation <br /> Mary Hall Ross and Chris Preimesberger spoke about the S 10,000 in funding <br /> received last year from the Commission and that is was the keystone to the <br /> Foundation's second year of operation. This year's grant request is for <br /> funding of a second grade music program. Mr. Preimesberger reviewed the <br /> history of the Foundation for the Commission; which started with one music <br /> teacher; and currently reaches hundreds of students in the district. He also <br /> spoke about the impact of the program on schools and the joy it brings to the <br /> students. Ms. Ross stated the Redwood City School District is increasing its <br /> support of the program and the need to grow the program to the 4`h grade. <br /> Instrumental music is provided in the 5`h grade. <br />
