Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of June 4, 1998 <br /> Classroom Instruction represented 90% of the program costs. The program <br /> currently has four teachers and eight are needed for next year. Kollage and <br /> the Redwood City Education Foundation will train the teachers; Kollage has <br /> also been hired to provide the teachers so there will be consistency with the <br /> State curriculum. <br /> Chairperson Ball commented on Sara Salisbury working on a program with <br /> the Peninsula Symphony at McKinley School; Peninsula Symphony is <br /> sponsoring the program. The Foundation is currently working on seeking <br /> instrumental donations to increase the number of children in the instrumental <br /> program. The Foundation stated that Mervyn's changed their funding <br /> program focus and so has not repeated their funding. The Foundation will be <br /> re-submitting a funding application to Target. <br /> -Redwood City Heritage Association <br /> No one from the Heritage Association was present for the grant request. A <br /> letter from the group stated they are looking for volunteer docents and gift <br /> shop assistance. No presentation was made. <br /> ITEM 3 — PUBLIC COMMENT ON GRANT PRESENTATIONS <br /> Henry Use spoke regarding attending any hearings of the City Council. <br /> Chairperson Ball spoke regarding the joint study session with the City Council <br /> and increasing the presence of Council at Commission meetings and vice <br /> versa. <br /> The decisions for this evening's grant presentations will be made at the July <br /> 2 Commission meeting. <br /> M/S Redington/Distefano: That the budget committee meet and develop a <br /> recommendation for the entire Commission which <br /> could include a request to Council for increased <br /> funding. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> The meeting was recessed at 8:20pm. The meeting was called back to order <br /> at 8:35pm. <br /> ITEM 1 — LIBRARY PROGRAMS <br /> Superintendent Centeno passed out the June calendar of events for the <br /> Library. The Summer Reading Program is underway. The Library also <br /> received a 540,000 grant recently. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Commissioner Distefano reviewed various newsletters and correspondence <br /> received by the Commission including: <br /> -newsletter from the Sequoia Art Group <br /> -membership application from the Arts Council of San Mateo County <br /> -concert flyer from Peninsula Symphony <br /> -newsletter from Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br />
