Civic Cultural Commission Page 4 <br /> Minutes of June 4, 1998 <br /> -brochure from Bravo's Start Smart Program <br /> -newsletter from Historic Union Cemetery Association <br /> -a certificate of lifetime membership from the Sequoia Alumni Association <br /> A letter was also received from Assemblyman Ted Lempert advising the <br /> Commission about AB 1785 which would require the State to develop <br /> content standards for visual and performance arts and foreign languages; he <br /> also informed the Commission about Senate Bill 1373 which would state the <br /> intent of the Legislature to increase our state's investment in the arts from <br /> .38 cents per resident to $1 .00 per resident. <br /> ITEM 3 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Publicity <br /> Commissioner Distefano announced publicizing the Vintage Musical Theater <br /> event. <br /> -Tis the Season <br /> Chairperson Ball reported on the first meeting which included the Alumni <br /> Association, Optimists, Rosine Bena, PCA to go ahead with plans. The <br /> parade is set for December 5, 1998 at 4:30pm. The Committee has left a <br /> message for Pat Valentine to have the parade coincide with the tree lighting <br /> ceremony. The San Mateo County Historical Museum will be opening this <br /> year and they are planning a Family Day on December 5. The next meeting <br /> is set for June 16 at 7:30pm at the Red Morton Center, Room 3. The <br /> possibility of having fireworks is being investigated. <br /> -Public Art <br /> Commissioner Britschgi indicated she would get in touch with Joel Patterson <br /> to get an update on what is happening with art at City Hall. <br /> -Youth and Special Events <br /> Commissioner Britschgi indicated she would speak with Julie Hannon <br /> regarding art activities at the upcoming Make a Circus. <br /> -Budget <br /> Chairperson Ball mentioned the State surplus and talking with State <br /> legislators about giving more back to the schools. Reminder: Budget Sub- <br /> Committee meeting to be held June 8 at 4:OOpm at the CAB, per motion. <br /> ITEM 4 — FOCUS 1998-2000 <br /> The Commissioners discussed results of study session with City Council; the <br /> preparations was well done and put together; good ideas. They thanked <br /> Superintendent Centeno for her input and good ideas. <br /> Chairperson Ball mentioned lacking advertisement on the Internet on City's <br /> home page and the need to reach more people with our programs. She <br /> hoped that a similar meeting could be held again with City Council meeting. <br />
