Minutes of the Civic Cultural Commission Page 5 <br /> Thursday, July 2, 1998 <br /> Youth and Special Events <br /> Make-A-Circus will be held August 4; Commissioner Britschgi reported Joan <br /> Jordan is working with the Art Center and Julie Hannon on the art booth for this <br /> event. <br /> M/S Brischgi/Redington: That the Commission will spend up to $500.00 for <br /> Make-A-Circus art supplies. <br /> Motion passed. (Yes-4, No-1 Distefano) <br /> Budget <br /> Nothing to report. <br /> ITEM 4— FOCUS 1998-2000 <br /> Commissioner Redington reported on a meeting Commissioner Saye attended <br /> called by Community Development Director Deborah Nelson regarding hanging <br /> banners in the downtown area. He reported that the wire currently located on <br /> Broadway near the Courthouse Coffee Shop is not in good condition and signs <br /> also become wrapped around the wire. Possible sites to hang banners include <br /> the clocktower which has three recesses for banners and the intersection of <br /> Jefferson and Broadway. He noted that the street lights at that intersection <br /> would need to be modified to accommodate hanging banners. Superintendent <br /> Centeno suggested that since the Banner Sub-Committee was disbanded, this <br /> subject could be incorporated in the responsibility of the Public Art Sub- <br /> Committee and Chairperson Ball agreed. <br /> The Commissioners mentioned the "Redwood City Comes Alive" event to be held <br /> on July 3. <br /> ITEM 5 — EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE LAST <br /> 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Britschgi spoke about visiting the Desert Museum in Palm <br /> Springs. <br /> -Commissioner Saye reported on his wife's health progress. <br /> -Commissioner Redington spoke about participating on the judging committee to <br /> select art for wall at the Main Library. He also visited Stetson University on his <br /> recent trip to Florida. <br /> -Chairperson Ball attended her grandson's 5�' grade graduation and the <br /> "Riverdance" performance at the Golden Gate Theater. <br /> -Commissioner Distefano commented on the successful flea market at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center on June 27. She also visited the art exhibit at <br /> the main corridor in the Hall of Justice and the John Gill art display at the San <br /> Mateo Credit Union. <br />
