Civic Cultua/Commission Page 4
Minutes of August 6, 1998
discuss the gallery space at City Hall and the hanging and re-framing of the
eight pieces of Ralph Ledesma art work at City Hall. Chairperson Ball felt
that the $1,500.00 cost to have the art work re-framed should come out of
the City's budget and not the Cultural Commission budget.
M/S Distefano/Redington: That the City pay for the $1,500.00 cost of re-
faming the Ralph Ledesma art work.
Motion passed unanimously.
-Summer Concerts
Chaiperson Ball reported that the last concert was attended by over 1,000
people and well received by the audience. It was suggested that next year
the banner be changed to include the dates of each concert; that the topics
of alcohol and dogs in the parks be discussed; and that the dates not conflict
with the Chambe's Business connection events.
-Youth and Special Events
Commissioner Britschgi reported that the Art Center did not have an art
event at Make-A-Circus on August 4. Superintendent Centeno reported that
attendance at the event was low probably due to the extraordinarily hot
weather.
-Budget
There was no report.
ITEM 4 — FOCUS 1998-2000
Superintendent Centeno announced the date for large swearing in ceremony
was changed to August 27th. The four new Cultural Commissioners will be
at the September commission meeting and Superintendent Centeno will do
an orientation for them. Commissioner Redington will chair the next meeting
at which time the Commissioners will decide when the election of officers
will be held.
ITEM 5 — EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE PAST
30 DAYS
-Commissioner Britschgi suggested the Fox Theater have a "Redwood City
Night" and invite the Council, Commissioners and others to a specially
designated peformance date.
-Commissioner Saye attended the PCS production of "Tommy" and
commented on the great show. He suggested that the Commissioners
attend "en masse" a cultural event or performance.
-Chairperson Ball attended the "Wizard of Oz" at the San Mateo Performing
Arts Center and said it was a delightful performance. She also commented
on her grandson's participation in a six week musical program which included
performing on stage, dancing, and singing.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
A reception for outgoing Commissioners Ball and Distefano will immediately
follow this meeting and everyone was invited to attend.
