Civic Cukursl Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of August 6, 1998 <br /> process developed by the Commission and asked the Commissioners to <br /> provide her with valid reasons why they were granting funds contrary to their <br /> grant policy. <br /> Mr. McKenna asked if their event could be sponsored by the Civic Cultural <br /> Commission. Commissioner Redington suggested using S 1,000.00 from <br /> small grants and 51,500.00 from either Commission-sponsored event fund or <br /> the contin�ency fund. <br /> M/S Redington/Britschgi: To grant 5999.00 to Vintage Music Theatre from <br /> small grant fund. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> The Commissioners suggested Mr. McKenna to come back to the September <br /> meeting to advise the Commission of their confirmed performance date at <br /> Carrington Hall and to possibly consider granting the Vintage Music Theatre <br /> additional funds towards their performance. <br /> ITEM 2 — DISCUSSION OF MEETING WITH MAYOR HOWARD AND <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER IRA REGARDING FOX THEATER <br /> Chairperson Ball reported that she and Commissioner Saye attended a <br /> meeting with Mayor Howard, CouRCiE Member Ira, and Superintendent <br /> Centeno to discuss the Fox Theater funding. She noted that the Mayor had <br /> no objections to the Fox productions but stated she would like the Fox to be <br /> more available during the days and evenings for use by other groups. <br /> Another meeting was also held with Mayor Howard, Council Member Ira, <br /> Superintendent Centeno, Peter Bliznick and three members of the PCS Board. <br /> Superintendent Centeno reported that Mayor Howard's expressed her <br /> concerns wFth the group and asked PCS to send a letter to the Council to <br /> provide ideas on ways for them to have a bigger impact on the revitalization <br /> of the downtown area. The Commissioners discussed whether the funding <br /> decision for PCS should remain with the Commission or go to the Council. <br /> Bill McKenRa noted that he was told by PCS several months ago that PCS is <br /> not renting to outside groups at all. <br /> ITEM 3 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Publicity <br /> Commissioner Distefano reported Commissioner Saye has been doing articles <br /> for the Almanac on the concerts in the park series. Chairperson Ball thanked <br /> Commissioner Distefano for her publicity on the Commission and its <br /> activities. <br /> -Tis the Season <br /> Chairpersor� Ball reported the Tis the Season Committee will be having a <br /> meeting on August 25 at 7:30pm; location to be announced. She said a <br /> flyer will be produced before the last summer concert to hand out to people <br /> regarding the Tis the Season events. <br /> -Public Art <br /> CommissioRer Britschgi announced a meeting will be held with the Public Art <br /> Sub-Committee, Joan Jordan, and Pat Valentine tomorrow at 10:OOam to <br />
