Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of September 3, 1998 <br /> Commissioner Pierce spoke to the fairness of the grant and the Commission <br /> sponsorship issues. She would like to see a date after the first of the year <br /> selected. <br /> Motion passed. (Yes-5, No-1 Schenone) <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> John Holt spoke regarding the plans for the 1998 Tis the Season program. <br /> He spoke about the 15 minutes of fireworks to music at the December 5 <br /> downtown Parade; applications are being accepted for parade entrants; the <br /> parade will run from 4:30-5:30pm and post-parade entertainment will be held <br /> from 5:30-6:30pm; other school groups will also be involved; the Tis the <br /> Season committee is planning 20 days of activities during December. The <br /> next meeting of the Tis the Season group will be held on September 16. <br /> The Commission took a recess at 8:37pm and reconvened at 8:50pm. <br /> Commissioner Saye arrived at 8:50pm. <br /> ITEM 3 — WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> New Cultural Commissioners Warren Dale, Danielle Del Carlo, Barbara Pierce <br /> and Rebecca Schenone were introduced. Each of the Commissioners shared <br /> some personal background information about themselves. <br /> ITEM 4 — SET DATE FOR ELECTION OF COMMISSION OFFICERS <br /> The Commissioners decided to accept nominations and elect officers at the <br /> November Commission meeting. <br /> ITEM 5 — BRAINSTORM A LIST OF WORK PLAN ITEMS FOR FY98-99 <br /> The Commissioners developed the following list of ideas for FY98-99: <br /> -procedure regarding public input <br /> -comparison with other cities on funds spent for cultural support <br /> -separating Fox and PCS <br /> -summer concerts <br /> -timelines for Commission events (planning) <br /> -continuing interest in public art <br /> -banners <br /> -coordination of timing of events; calendar; group; what is our role? <br /> -children's drama camp <br /> -role of Commission in schools <br /> -urban cultural enhancement trust fund <br /> -role with response to visual arts and where and historical museum <br /> -plans for downtown; what impact can commission have? <br /> -what is our role in aesthetic development? <br /> -public art - encourage it <br /> -development of staged performances; music, drama, bands to enhance <br /> downtown festivals <br /> -20 year plan, vision for future; what we want to achieve <br /> -get cultural element of general plan <br />
