Civic Cultural Commission Page 2 Minutes of January 7, 1999 their new facility. The focus would be to introduce the arts groups in the community to the new Historical Museum. The Commission would be responsible for the development, printing and mailing of invitations, and hosting of the event; the Historical Museum would provide the refreshments. The Commissioners discussed inviting the schools in addition to the arts groups. M/S Britschgi/Pierce: That the Civic Cultural Commission sponsor a reception for the San Mateo County Historical Museum in the Spring; date to be announced. Commissioner Saye announced he was a member of the San Mateo County Historical Museum; Chairperson Redington is also a member; Commissioner Dale's wife is on their board of directors. Commissioner Schenone felt the reception needs to have a focus such as forging relationships with the arts organizations and the schools. Commissioner Britschgi stated that tours of the facility will be provided to people attending the reception. Motion passed unanimously. Chairperson Redington directed the Public Art Sub-Committee to begin working on this event. ITEM 3 — STATUS OF VINTAGE MUSIC THEATER PRODUCTION The Commissioners received a letter from Bill McKenna of Vintage Music Theater which stated that their scheduled music performance on Saturday, March 20 at Carrington Hall was cancelled by Sequoia; their performance for Friday, March 19 at Carrington Hall is still in place. The Commissioners discussed the fact that the 52,499.00 grant to Vintage Music Theater was for performances to be held in Redwood City. Mr. McKenna, who was out of town and will not return until January 21, explained in his letter that the only other venue available on March 20 is the San Mateo Center for Performing Arts. M/S Dale/Pierce: To strongly suggest that Vintage Music Theater consider the Veterans Memorial Senior Center (even though less people would be served) but that funding would remain as it is regardless of the venue. The Commissioners discussed what their role should be in finding another venue for Vintage Music Theater's performance in Redwood City. Motion was withdrawn by maker and seconder. MIS Pierce/Saye: In order to meet their grant contract, a representative from the Vintage Music Theater must contact the Veterans Memorial Senior Center and Carrington Hall for available dates. If neither venue works, to come to the February Commission meeting to discuss further. Motion passed unanimously.
