Minutes of the Civic Cultural Commission Page 4 <br /> Thursday, February 4, 1999 <br /> M/S Britschgi/Saye: To use any funds left over to the Commission to establish a <br /> deposit account for the purchase of public art. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Vice Chairperson Britschgi reported on her meeting with Deborah Nelson who <br /> will check with the League of Califomia Cities on public art loan programs. She <br /> also reported on an offer from Ruth Waters to do a slide show on Public Art for <br /> the Commission. <br /> Planning <br /> Commissioner Pierce reported that she and her committee members will <br /> continue to collect information from other cities on their cultural arts programs. <br /> Children and Schools <br /> Commissioner Schenone reported on the committee meeting where a Spring Art <br /> and Poetry Contest was proposed. Three categories were suggested including: <br /> Visual arts, Computer Art and Poetry. The Committee will seek a sponsor for the <br /> contest. She reported that the theme chosen was "Dreams". They would be <br /> seeking outside judges for the event from among art teachers and writers. The <br /> plan is to host a reception for the winners in the lobby of City Hall perhaps with <br /> the Woodside Jazz Band as entertainment. <br /> M/S Schenone/Pierce: To authorize the committee to seek corporate sponsors <br /> for the event. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Budget <br /> The Commissioners reported on their committee meeting and work to review <br /> expenditures in relation to cost per attendee, total cost as it relates to <br /> Commission subsidy, etc. <br /> CCC Sponsored Events <br /> A written report on the Summer Concert Series was distributed to the <br /> Commission. Commissioner Del Carlo explained that the lawn area behind Red <br /> Morton would be the site for this summer's concerts due to construction at <br /> Stafford Park. The Commission would like signage placed at both Stafford and <br /> Red Morton Parks. <br /> Item 8 - Evaluation of Cultural Events over the Past 30 days <br /> The Commissioners commented on various events including: the gala opening <br /> of the San Mateo County Historical Museum, the Palo Alto Players Production, <br /> the Martin Luther King Jr., Celebration at Mount Carmel Auditorium, and the <br /> Council Priority Setting Session. <br />
