Civic Cu/tural Commission page 2 <br /> Minutes of March 4, 1999 <br /> ITEM 2 — SCHEDULING AND TIMING FOR PUBLIC ART PRESENTATION BY <br /> RUTH WATERS <br /> Commissioner Britschgi reported Ruth Waters would like to come to the April <br /> meeting and give a presentation on public art. <br /> Commissioner Dale asked that the April meeting be moved from the 1 S` to the <br /> 8`n of April due to religious holidays. <br /> M/S Dale/Britschgi: To change the April meeting date from April 1 to April 8. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> M/S Dale/Schenone: To have Ruth Waters come to the April 8 Commission <br /> meeting to give her public art presentation. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 3 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> -Budget <br /> The Commissioners reviewed the letter which will go out to grant applicants <br /> next week. Several changes were made to the mailing list. Large grant <br /> applications will be due by April 30tn. <br /> -Children and Schools <br /> Commissioner Schenone reported the sub-committee would like to have a <br /> 1999 art contest with three categories: visual, written and computer art. <br /> Commissioner Dale is pursing financial support for the contest of 5500.00. <br /> They requested that a representative of the Redwood City 2000 sub- <br /> committee on performing arts be asked to attend the May meeting as they <br /> would like to determine if the Cultural Commission should be involved in the <br /> youth master plan for Redwood City. <br /> Commissioner Schenone said she wants the art contest to occur before the <br /> end of the school year and reviewed the timeline for this to happen. The <br /> Commissioners and staff discussed the how the contest was run in previous <br /> years; the desire to include grades 6 through 8 this year and to extend the <br /> program in the next three years to include high school students; the <br /> timetable for the contest process; judging of entries; discussion of the theme <br /> of this year's contest (Dreams); types of prize awards; and giving cash <br /> awards to public and private schools for the most entries received from each <br /> school. <br /> M/S Schenone/Dale: To give a cash award for the most entries received in <br /> two categories: public and private schools. <br /> Motion failed. (Yes-1, No-5) <br /> M/S Schenone/Dale: To give a 5100.00 cash award to the school with the <br /> most entries to the art contest. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> The funding for this cash award will come out of the Commission-sponsored <br /> events budget. <br />
