Civic Cu/tural Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of April 8, 1999 <br /> tTEM 5 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS (continued) <br /> -Culturai Commission Sponsored Events <br /> Commissioner Del Carlo reviewed the proposed 1999 concert series schedule <br /> with the Commissioners. The Commission had requested 54,900 from the <br /> Port of Redwood City for sponsorship of the concert series; the cost of the <br /> proposed 1999 concert series is 56,450. The Port has requested a two hour <br /> concert in connection with the "Tall Ships from Early California" event on <br /> Saturday, June 5. The 18-member "Happy Time Banjos" musical group was <br /> suggested to perform at a cost of 5200.00. <br /> M/S Det Carlo/Schenone: To accept the proposed 1999 concert series and <br /> budget with the difference coming out of the Cultural Commission-sponsored <br /> events budget. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> M/S Date/Del Carlo: To contract with Happy Time Banjos to perform on June <br /> 5 at the Port. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> -Planning <br /> Commissioner Pierce reported the sub-committee is still obtaining additional <br /> information; the report should be ready by the May meeting. <br /> -Public Art <br /> Commissioner Britschgi reported she will work with Ruth Waters on this <br /> subject. <br /> ITEM 6 — EVALUATION OF CULTURAL EVENTS HELD DURING THE PAST <br /> 30 DAYS <br /> -Commissioner Pierce spoke about display banners in Burbank and other <br /> Southern California cities; the banners are informative and decorative. <br /> -Commissioner Del Carlo attended "Two Gentlemen of Genius", 'Chorus <br /> Line", and the opening of the San Mateo County Historical Museum. <br /> -Commissioner Dale spoke about viewing public art in Zhuhai, China and <br /> Hong Kong; he visited a Chinese school which performed a musical <br /> extravaganza; he also saw a music program in Romania on Good Friday; he <br /> also spoke about Redwood City 2000 developing a drama camp and work <br /> shops for youth. <br /> -Commissioner Schenone attended the San Francisco Garden Show and <br /> "Measure for Measure" at Canada College. <br /> -Commissioner Britschgi visited the Grand Canyon and an art exhibit at <br /> Redwood City Art Center featuring Sonja Hamilton and John Zanoni. <br /> -Chairperson Redington spoke about the Ledesma art work at City Hall; he <br /> attended "Two Gentlemen of Genius" and an art show at a Fremont art <br /> gallery which featured the art work of gorillas. <br />
