The Commissioners felt they should <br /> visit the art piece before their October meeting. Under this same item, the <br /> Commissioners will make a recommendation regarding advertising or signage <br /> to the City Hall art gallery. Mrs. Uccelli requested that she be sent a copy of <br /> the October Commission agenda. <br /> Nick Watry of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee spoke regarding <br /> the public art ordinances and the recent $50,000 grant given by the Housing <br /> and Human Concerns Committee to fund twin fountains at City Center Plaza. <br /> He noted that some cities require art paid for, executed, and maintained by <br /> developers. He is currently working in Sunnyvale at Central Expressway and <br /> Wolfe Road where such a requirement is in place. He suggested that the <br /> Commission consider bringing a similar ordinance to our City Council. It <br /> would also need to go to the Planning Commission and the City Attorney. <br /> He shared the City of Sunnyvale ordinance and a story about how he was <br /> working with a man in Sunnyvale who wanted to install a statue of a <br /> baseball player with his own likeness. <br /> fTEM 1 — PARK AND RECREATION STRATEGIC PLAN 'Ih�G <br /> Park and Recreation Commissioner Susan Swope spoke regarding the Park <br /> and Recreation Commission's Strategic Planning Sub-Committee. The group <br /> is looking to update the department's strategic plan. She noted that the plan <br /> was first completed in 1989 and was looking out over a 10 year span of <br /> time. The sub-committee is now looking to update the plan for the period of <br /> 2000 to 2010. Park and Recreation Commissioners Susan Swope, Vic <br /> Morton, Jeri Joseph, and Don Davis (alternate) will be working to update the <br /> plan as well as a revision of the City's general plan. The sub-committee <br /> members would like to include representatives from various boards and <br /> commissions in this planning process and will be approaching the Civic <br /> Cultural Commission, Historic Resources Advisory Committee, Fair Oaks <br /> Advisory Board, Senior Affairs Commission and Youth Advisory Board. <br /> Currently, the meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays at <br /> 7:30pm and ending no later than 9:30pm. <br /> Commissioner Swope noted that participation wilt be a benefit in updating <br /> the Cultural Element in the next year as part of the City's Genera! Plan. The <br /> group is trying to identify what information we have on hand such as the <br /> Redwood City phone survey to characterize the service areas and population. <br /> The goal is to have a plan for prioritization. She requested one member from <br /> the Civic Cultural Commission to participate. The group is looking at having <br /> a study session with the Council once the draft is complete. The group is <br /> connected to the schools via Commissioner Jeri Joseph. They also plan to <br /> hold a series of public meetings to get input from the public. <br /> M/S Pierce/Del Carlo: To accept the proposal and participate with the Park <br /> and Recreation Commission on this project. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Commissioner Pierce will be the representative and Commissioner Del Carlo <br /> will be the alternate. <br />
