Civic Cultural Commission Page 3 ° Minutes of September 2, 1999 ITEM 2 — SMALL GRANT REaUESTS -Sequaia Art Group Dave McClure of the Sequoia Art Group spoke regarding their grant request for the Spring Art Show, which wilt be held on May 16 and 17, 2000. The grant will provide cash awards for art show winners. M/S Saye/Britschgi: To grant $425.00 to the Sequoia Art Group for their Spring Art Show to be held in May 2000. Motion passed unanimously. ITEM 3 — SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS -Budget Commissioner Del Carlo reported the sub-committee will work with the Pubtic Art committee to bring a recommendation for allocation of unspent dollars to a public art purchase trust. -Children and Schools Commissioner Schenone reported a meeting wili be scheduled. Commissioner Britschgi suggested coordination with the Federated Women's Club art contest. -CCC Sponsored Events Commissioner Del Carlo reported on the six (6) concerts held this summer. At the last concert held on Septemberl, Council members and Commissioners performed in two numbers. A survey on the concerts was taken that evening. Results will be available next month. -Planning Commissioner Pierce distributed a copy of results of Cultural Services Questionnaire. She reported on a variety of programs in other cities and how they are funded. Commissioner Saye will provide his notes to Commissioner Pierce from additional cities. Commissioner Dale raised the issue of per capita spending. Park and Recreation Commissioner Susan Swope thought that the California Confederation of the Arts or California Arts Council may have per capita spending data. The sub-committee will meet to formalize a recommendation to the fuli Commission. -Public Art Commissioner Britschgi spoke regarding the ArtShare "Sound Off III" to be held at San Mateo City Hall on September 25. Commissioner Schenone will assist with the display needed. Commissioner Britschgi distributed copies of the City's Art Inventory to the Commissioners. She will meet with Budget sub-committee regarding public art recommendations. The Commission accepted an Otis Carrington painting of redwoods as a gift from his local family. M/S Saye/Del Carlo: To accept the painting by Qtis Carrington. Motion passed unanimously. A ietter of thanks will be sent with information provided by Commissioner Britschgi.
